This is a gel-type oil cleanser. The process of massaging, emulsifying, and wiping off remains the same as other cleansers. I tried a large sample size and was impressed by how incredibly gentle and non-irritating it is, despite being an oil or cleansing balm type cleanser. However, don't be fooled by its gentleness - its cleansing effectiveness is not compromised at all. It removes most makeup, including eyeliner, quite effectively. Unlike liquid oils, the gel texture doesn't drip, making it easier and more comfortable to massage into the skin. After using this for my first cleanse and then showering, I noticed my blackheads were more easily removed. While I prefer using oil at home, I'm considering switching to this for my pool bag once I finish my current oil cleanser. It takes up less space, and the tube packaging is less likely to let water in, which is a plus. It does feel a bit pricey for the amount you get. Also, I always find it tricky to gauge how much product to use each time - it's easy to overuse. Unlike oil cleansers, if you massage this for too long, it can start to feel a bit dry. For blackhead removal, I don't think it's as effective as a cleansing oil. Additionally, while it removes most sunscreens well, it struggles with the Shiseido blue sunscreen. It seems to dissolve the sunscreen when applied to dry skin, but as soon as water touches it for emulsification, the sunscreen reattaches to the face.
