ILLAMASQUA (Overseas) Hydra Veil

I don't usually use a primer before my base makeup, so I had high expectations for this primer. I was pleasantly surprised by the hydrating jelly-like texture that applied so smoothly and moisturized my skin. From what I've heard, primer users often say that primers can clog pores and make the skin feel a bit heavy and stuffy. However, the Hydra Veil Primer from Laneige felt more like applying a hydrating serum rather than a typical primer - there was no heaviness or stuffiness, just a refreshing boost of moisture that helped create a smoother, more perfected base for my makeup. As someone who focuses more on skin care than color cosmetics, I was really satisfied with how this primer performed without making my makeup feel cakey or weighed down. Even as my makeup started to break down later in the day, it still looked much more intact and seamless compared to just wearing foundation alone.

Since this is a hydrating, water-based primer, it may not be the best option for dry-skinned individuals, as it could potentially cause the makeup to appear patchy or uneven. I would recommend this more for those with combination or oily skin types like myself.

During the hot summer when I sweat a lot, I find that using a lightweight, hydrating gel-type primer like the Hydra Veil Primer is much better than thicker, pore-filling primers. The cooling, serum-like texture doesn't clog my pores or make my makeup feel heavy, even on the hottest and most humid days. For oily skin types like mine, I think this type of primer paired with a light dusting of powder is the perfect formula to achieve a shine-free, natural-looking finish that lasts throughout the day.
