I picked this up at the NARS counter while looking for something similar to Dolce Vita and Rikugien, and I was shocked twice - first by the name, and then by the color payoff. While I still consider Rikugien the ultimate MLBB shade, if I had to choose an MLBB from NARS Matte Lip Pencils, I'd go with Sex Machine over Dolce Vita. It has a pink undertone but shows up slightly darker than my natural lip color, giving a nice boost of vitality. The online swatches make it look like strawberry milk, but it didn't come across that way on me at all. It's fascinating how Dolce Vita and Sex Machine look nearly identical when swatched on paper, but transform into completely different colors on the lips.
ConsWhile I'm thoroughly satisfied with the application, color payoff, and longevity (as with all NARS products), there's no escaping the dryness. If I apply lip balm over it, it becomes too glossy and ends up no different from their satin lip pencils... I suppose it's more an issue with my lips than with NARS. And then there's that product name... I can't even recommend it to anyone without blushing! What was NARS thinking when they came up with these names? Of course, it seems many people are drawn to NARS because of these names or feel compelled to buy shades that don't suit them, but NARS products are so good that they don't need this kind of noise marketing. Am I being too naive?
TipIf you gently dab a darker lip pencil on the inner part of your lips and blend it outwards, it creates a more flushed look, while the pink tones on the outer edges give a sophisticated finish.
