I didn't even know this color existed, and I was vaguely looking for that famous 'Laying Low' shade or something. But when I saw it, I realized it was too tawny for me. Then I stumbled upon Groundwork, and I knew I had to have it before even trying it on! As expected, when I tested it, the color was perfect! Since I'm too lazy for full makeup and usually just slap on some contour shadow, I've been wandering around looking for a long-lasting cream shadow. The moment I saw this, I knew it was the one. Even though I don't wear makeup often these days, on days when I need to, this is all I use for eye makeup! I don't even bother with eyeliner. Just swipe this on with my finger, and if I'm in the mood, I'll add some mascara. For fellow lazy makeup enthusiasts who want to finish their eye look with just one shadow, this is the answer. It's quick, absorbs well, has great staying power, doesn't smudge, and doesn't crease! If you use an eye primer, the color lasts even longer. Since it's a cream shadow, I'm already worried it might dry out before I use half of it. And while I might change my mind if a prettier shadow comes along, I'm also worried this one might be discontinued! If you apply Urban Decay's eye primer before the shadow, the color pops more and lasts even longer. But if you're feeling lazy, just removing excess oil from your lids will still make the color look beautiful. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinSep 11, 2017
This is truly my holy grail! I've been using it all summer, and it never once broke down. There was a time when I cried really hard, and while my waterproof pen eyeliner (famous for not coming off) disappeared, the Paint Pot and the eyeshadow on top of it survived! No need for other primers, Paint Pot is the best. Once it sets, it stays put no matter what! Groundwork has a slightly grayish muted brown tone, giving a real shadow effect. When applied lightly, it's similar to MAC Wedge, and when applied more heavily, it has a multi-dimensional feel. It matches my complexion perfectly. The massive amount that seems to never run out is a bonus - even using it every time I do my makeup, it'll probably take 1-2 years to finish. It might be stating the obvious, but using this as a base makes your makeup look deeper, and colorful eyeshadows might not shine as brightly. Also, the Korean retail price (32,000 won) is too expensive to justify buying it. If you're like me and prefer contoured or deeper makeup looks and are searching for a primer-like shadow base, this will be your holy grail. For those who prefer and often do lighter makeup, I use Painterly or Laying Low from the same line when using eyeshadows (like pink, red, or vibrant orange for a pop of color). Just add some shimmer or glitter over Groundwork, and your eye makeup is done. My recommended golden combo is to use it with pearl-heavy eyeshadows like Mono Eyes Modern Fatal or MAC Pro Diamond Powder types - they adhere well for long-lasting wear, and it's just beautiful! In the review photo, I'm wearing MAC Honeylust on top.
