When I feel that itchy sensation, I apply it to the area, and in about an hour - no, scratch that, just 30 minutes - the redness completely disappears, the itching stops, and everything just calms down. A helpful tip: place a cotton swab at the opening and gently squeeze. Then use the swab to dab the product on areas where blemishes are just starting to form and feel itchy. It works great!
