I had high hopes for this product after reading all the positive reviews.
ConsI discovered after purchasing that it contains ingredients that don't agree with my skin. Unfortunately, it causes itching, making it unusable for me.

It feels incredibly hydrating when first applied.
ConsPerhaps due to the numerous potential allergens, my face became itchy and developed red bumps after use, prompting me to switch to a different product.

It's my go-to for all seasons. In my youth, I had dry but fair and clear skin. Now, my extremely dry skin cracks at the slightest neglect. While Aveda's Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant and Exfoliating Cleanser aren't quite as effective, I always include a bottle of each when my skin feels less supple. As someone with extremely dry skin who hasn't done a 'skincare diet' in over 5 years (maybe 7-8?), I find this emulsion amazingly effective even with just one pump. The difference between using this before other products and skipping it is night and day. Just one pump makes my skin suddenly supple, allowing several layers of other products to absorb effortlessly. Given Aveda's reputation, they wouldn't use harmful ingredients, so this must be a triumph of technology. For reference, I pile on hydrating cream, oil cream, facial oil, and eye booster. I wouldn't dare apply all these without the Aveda base. (If I did, my skin would feel like it's tearing) Yesterday, I rediscovered something I'd forgotten. When this pump-style emulsion is almost empty, you can't pump out the product at the bottom. So you open the lid and tap it into your palm, and about 5 pumps worth comes out at once. Waste not, want not - I apply it all to my face. Usually, I see effects with such a small amount that I worry if using this much will be okay... But the scent is lovely, and it's too precious to waste, so I slather it all on... And wow... This doesn't happen often, so it's always surprising. My skin tone changes. After gently spreading it with my palms, I press it in, and no matter how much there was, it all absorbs, and suddenly my skin glows... (I just checked the price for the 500ml again after a long time) I'll stop here. I guess it's just a perfect match for my skin. It might not work for everyone, but please read this keeping in mind that it's primarily for skin concerned with dark spots, freckles, and dryness. Yesterday at Olive Young, I tested a product that felt very similar in texture to I** Excellent Emulsion. The absorption style was similar too. I didn't apply it to my face, so I can't be sure, but I** is more expensive than Aveda. Even if it's a domestic product, at that price, I can't champion using Korean products. (Update: I should have added this right away in 2017, but I forgot. The Excellent Emulsion is not similar at all. If you remove the widely known, notoriously bad preservatives, you need other ingredients to act as preservatives. These could be patented ingredients or less commonly used ones. No one knows if they'll cause blemishes or not. At that time, my skin wasn't in good condition, and I heard good things about their ingredients, so I bought several of their products. They didn't suit me at all, and I had an average of 5-6 pimples until the day I threw them away. I bought hundreds of acne patches. I don't usually break out, you know. It was so sudden and constant that I was honestly scared to death. This shows that there are plenty of unknown blemish-triggering ingredients in this world. Don't rely too much on ingredient lists alone.) Since Aveda is a fragrant natural cosmetics brand, it's full of potential allergens. My friend describes it as 'Aveda, red all over on Hwahae'. The preservative (phenoxyethanol) is almost always listed last, and the 'red flags' that appear at the very end are ingredients that contribute to that beloved Aveda scent, which I think are essential. It's Aveda's signature fragrance. It wouldn't be the same without it. While it's great that Hwahae has made me more aware of cosmetic ingredients, it sometimes saddens me when my beloved brands like Aveda and Lush get criticized for their ingredients. That's why I added this note.
ConsI have absolutely no complaints. The scent is just wonderful, sigh. However, the presence of potential allergens is certain. While it doesn't affect me, a friend said it made her itchy and she couldn't use it. She mentioned that all products labeled as 'botanical' or natural plant-based something-or-other cause her skin to react. If you've had similar experiences with other plant-based cosmetics, don't try this one ToT As for the price... well, there are duty-free shops, Black Friday sales, and other solutions, so don't be too shocked by the department store retail price.
TipThese three are the items I buy from Aveda: Aveda Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Emulsion Aveda Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant Skin Aveda Botanical Kinetics Exfoliating Cream Cleanser Despite having 'exfoliant' in the name, they're not at all harsh even for my extremely dry skin. They just gently remove dead skin cells. Dry skin's biggest enemy is dead skin cells. They quickly harden and form a coating on the face, so I always apply toner with a wiping motion and only use cleansers that keep my skin moisturized for at least 30 seconds after towel-drying post-cleanse. The Exfoliating Cleanser, despite its name, doesn't have outstanding cleansing power. I don't even expect it to remove makeup... But after using these products, my skin feels incredibly soft. Wow, it's surprisingly soft. I wonder why...

The scent was mild and pleasant, reminiscent of herbs.
ConsIt has a very thin consistency, but when applied, it feels sticky and makes my face itchy. While psoriasis doesn't usually appear on my cheeks, this product seems to cause redness and irritation. I've only used it intermittently for 3 weeks, not even daily, and still experienced these issues. It doesn't seem to suit my skin, so I gave it to my sister to use instead.

ConsI used this with my toner, but whenever I applied just this product, my face would break out, become itchy, and it didn't suit my body either. It's a product that triggers skin blemishes.

The scent is quite pleasant too! I used it in summer and found it lightweight yet soothing, with decent hydration.
ConsThe price is the biggest drawback. The ingredients list could be better too. However, I'm relieved to see that the potential irritants and allergens are listed towards the end, suggesting they're not present in high concentrations. Still, those with super sensitive skin should be cautious. I experienced some mild itching during use, so I'm deducting one star.

ConsWell, I'm glad I received this as a gift rather than spending my own money on it. Unfortunately, it really doesn't suit me. My sister also finds it irritating and itchy when applied. What's worse, it caused an explosion of tiny blemishes that I already had.

If it doesn't suit me, I automatically consider it not good.
ConsI bought this because it was supposed to be good for super sensitive skin, but after using it for just one day, my face became unbearably itchy and I broke out in blisters. It was a nightmare! I had to visit the dermatologist so many times. Looking at it now, the list of potential allergens is no joke. I really want to give that store assistant who recommended this for sensitive skin a piece of my mind.
