The lipstick comes in six shades, and when applied, there's no harsh line on the lips! It's a vibrant yet not overpowering red that's absolutely refreshing. This is my first lipstick purchase in a while, and I'm thoroughly impressed. I bought it on sale, though the regular price is a bit steep. While the product case is pretty, it's a fingerprint magnet. On my lips, the color was closer to pink. I loved that it wasn't an overwhelming shade. It was great that it didn't accentuate any dead skin cells either. Rather than applying it alone, I found it looked prettier when I used a different color as a base and then applied this lightly on the inner part of my lips as a point of interest. I've been using Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar for a long time, about 3-4 tubes, and when it was discontinued, I decided to try the new Layering Lip Bar. The lipstick color is pink, but when applied, it looks like a pinkish red? As I have a warm complexion, pure pink doesn't suit me well, but this red-leaning shade seems to be a great match. Having used the Two Tone Lip Bar for so long, I couldn't help but compare. Despite being called 'Layering', I honestly didn't feel much difference from applying a regular single-tone lipstick... It seems to emphasize dead skin cells quite a bit. While the lipstick itself feels moisturizing, I noticed a lot of flaking after application. Also, like the Two Tone Lip Bar, it's quite pricey for the amount you get. The staying power is average for a moisturizing lipstick. I was hoping for improvements with the price increase, but I'm disappointed...

When applied over a matte foundation base on the lips, the color payoff and longevity are decent. It doesn't catch on dry patches or emphasize flakiness. The shade No. 06 Alluring Red looked promising... It has a slight pink undertone that doesn't suit my complexion. I'm not sure if it layers well. It's difficult to apply when my lips are already moisturized.
