There's always a gap no matter how hard you press it down. It seems like the plastic manufacturer made a mistake. The spatula fits snugly into the lid, which is great. Even without the spatula, there's an unavoidable gap in the lid, but the fact that you can store the spatula well is a big plus, allowing for clean and easy use. Before rinsing with water, I recommend first removing the oily residue with a tissue or cotton pad, then washing with lukewarm water. If you rinse directly with water, you'll need to wash for a while to get rid of the slippery feeling. By wiping off the oil with a tissue first, you can avoid blemishes and cleanse more quickly. Even after thorough cleansing, remaining oil can cause skin issues, so I suggest using facial tissues instead of toilet paper to minimize skin irritation. Alternatively, you could use a damp towel to wipe off the product before rinsing, like they do in esthetic salons (though laundry might become an issue).
