I used to only use Uriage lip balm, but given its price point, it became a bit of a burden for long-term use. So, I was on the hunt for a super hydrating alternative when I discovered this one. Of course, Lab No products are a bit pricier compared to other budget-friendly lip balms, but you can find them much cheaper than retail price online. When they're on sale or at their lowest price, I stock up on a few. 1. Hydration Lab No Safe Lip Balm not only has great ingredients, but its hydrating power is impressive! Many cheaper lip balms just feel like they're greasing the surface of your lips and dry out quickly, but Safe Lip Balm feels like it's really enveloping your lips, providing deep hydration. 2. Lasting power As someone who typically applies lip balm three or four times a day, I found that this doesn't dry out quickly. However, like any lip balm, the moisturizing effect does fade after eating. 3. Richness If Uriage lip balm is a 10 on the richness scale, Safe Lip Balm would be about a 5 or 6. It's lighter than you might expect. When you apply it, it doesn't feel too oily - it's light yet moisturizing. While it might not provide extreme hydration, it's great for daily use.
ConsAs you use it, the lip balm itself seems to dry out a bit. It can become somewhat stiff, even when kept indoors and not in a cold place. Occasionally, when my lips are very dry, it can apply a bit stiffly. On those days, I found it helps to rub the surface of the balm with my finger a few times to slightly melt it before applying - this makes it much easier to use.

I bought it because I heard the ingredients were good. It's not too heavy and feels quite light on the skin.
ConsI switched to Sidmool's Jojoba instead... Sadly, this one dried out too quickly for me.

It applies beautifully, feels soft, and gives a nice coated feeling.
ConsHowever, after about 5 minutes, it starts to feel like it's sitting on top of the lips rather than absorbing. Then later, my lips feel dry. The staying power isn't great.

ConsI was using it well, but at some point (for reasons I'm not sure of), the more I applied, the drier my lips felt. It gave me a sensation of my lips drying out, so I probably won't repurchase it.

I slather it on at night. The ingredients are great.
ConsThe waxy texture gives you high hopes for intense hydration, but it's disappointingly less moisturizing than expected. I still apply it out of habit before bed because it's better than nothing, but I end up reaching for the same brand's intensive lip balm for an extra layer. At first, it feels like it's coating your lips nicely, but then you get that drying sensation. Sigh. I'm prone to dead skin cells on my upper lip, so I apply it generously even above my lip line, but the hydration is just lacking. If you only use this, expect to need some serious exfoliation the next day.
TipDon't make the same mistake I did by buying both. Just go for Cicalo's intensive lip balm instead - it's much better. I've tried using them together and separately after cleansing, and the intensive balm is the clear winner. It even helps soften dead skin cells...

It doesn't leave a greasy feeling either. The stick format makes it easy to apply with a quick swipe. The consistency is just right - not too hard or too soft, which I really like. It pairs well with lipstick! Perfect for everyday use, anytime.
ConsIt became popular thanks to Director Pi and was compared to Uriage, so I gave up my beloved Sidmool Eco Lip Balm out of curiosity. While Eco Lip Balm uses natural oils for comfortable, intense hydration, La Roche-Posay feels moisturizing when applied, but the inner lips dry out quickly. The outer lips stay moisturized, but the inner part feels somewhat tight. It's also pricier than Sidmool. If you can get it at 50% off, it's quite satisfying! For pure lip balm functionality though, Sidmool wins.
TipSidmool Eco Balm is top-notch for hydration. La Roche-Posay works well as an autumn, daily, and makeup-friendly lip balm.

I bought it when there was a controversy about carcinogenic ingredients in other lip balms. To be honest, there weren't any particularly positive aspects of the product.
ConsWhile it's less heavy than Nivea, it still feels uncomfortable. If Nivea feels like wearing a padded coat on your lips, this is more like a thin jacket - still quite stifling. I don't know if it's just me, but the moisture doesn't last long. It dries out quickly, and I feel a tingling sensation every time I apply it. I thought it might be because my lips were chapped, but even after they healed, the tingling persisted. I bought three of these but ended up throwing them away before finishing even one.
TipSince people's experiences may vary drastically, make sure to try it before committing to a purchase.

I bought it after seeing Director Pi's recommendation! 2. It's quite moisturizing. My lips are dry, so I need to apply lip balm even in summer. While tube-type or natural oil lip balms are more hydrating, I'm satisfied considering this is a stick format. 3. It dries to a soft finish. It's great for applying lipstick on top. I use it with Clio's Mad Matte lipstick, and the lipstick doesn't pill and the color stays vibrant. You know how it's difficult to apply lipstick over a slick lip balm, right? I'm so satisfied that I've repurchased it and even recommended it to friends for a group buy. My friends have repurchased it too.
Cons1. Hydration Naturally, it's less hydrating compared to tube-type products or natural oil lip balms. At first, I thought its hydrating power was lower because it dries to a soft finish, but after continued use, I don't think that's the case. Products that feel dry on the lips even after applying a lot are the ones lacking in hydration. I reapply whenever my lips feel even slightly dry, and because this product dries to a soft finish, it's really great for reapplication!
Tip1. It pairs well with lipstick! It dries to a soft finish, so lipstick doesn't pill and the color stays vibrant. 2. Recommend tube-type for nighttime For those with very dry lips like me, I suggest using a more hydrating product, like a tube-type or natural oil product, at night. +++ Adding content a few months later. This lip balm is more moisturizing than Labno Cicalo tube-type lip balm. When the lip balm was almost finished, I scooped out about 1-2 rice grain-sized amounts with a cotton swab and applied it thickly on my lips before bed. With tube-type balms, sometimes my lips would feel dry in the morning even after applying generously, but with this lip balm, they always felt moisturized! I intend to keep purchasing it.

However, due to carcinogen concerns, I searched on Hwahae and bought this instead. I love that it has gentle ingredients, absorbs well, and is fragrance-free.
ConsThe staying power is lacking. It feels like it evaporates quickly or dries out, so you need to reapply often. It also feels slightly less hydrating than I'd like.
