The pump dispenses a foam formula. The scent is reminiscent of toothpaste...? There's a slightly sharp smell, but it's fragrance-free when applied to hair. Although it's meant for both scalp and hair, due to ingredients like PEG and ethanol, I couldn't apply it directly to my sensitive scalp. Instead, I applied it close to the scalp. Even with my short bob and thin hair, it takes about 4 pumps for full coverage. It seems to run out quickly, and with its small quantity and high price, I'm using it sparingly. Why am I conserving it despite the not-so-great ingredients? For me, volume is usually impossible. I have thin, limp hair that gets greasy easily. However, the Nioxin treatment doesn't leave a slippery feeling, making it great for those with oily hair. The foam absorbs instantly, leaving no residue. It actually delays oil production. Unlike some treatments or essences that can make hair greasy, this Nioxin treatment can be applied liberally without any greasiness. It gives a slight 'clumping' or textured feel, similar to using wax or hairspray. This seems to help create and hold volume when blow-drying. Despite absorbing quickly, it softens the hair like a regular treatment and seems to have a calming effect.
ConsThe small quantity is disappointing, especially given the high price. Also, the presence of PEG and ethanol in the ingredients is a downside.
