For a cleansing oil, it has gentle ingredients, is affordable, and has satisfactory cleansing power (it even removes Kiss Me waterproof mascara). If you emulsify properly, it doesn't cause blemishes, and I love its uniquely moisturizing finish. I've been using it with satisfaction. The renewed version seems to have focused on better ingredients. I remember the previous formula wasn't that great ingredient-wise. I've tried other drugstore cleansing oils, and while their cleansing effectiveness was similar, The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Rich Cleansing Oil suited my dry skin best. It's not too thick or too light, but has just the right amount of hydration. Being sensitive-skinned, I worry about blemishes from cleansing oil residue, so I usually follow up with a second cleanse even after emulsifying. That's why I prefer a cleansing oil that's moderately moisturizing. As for cleansing power, it even dissolves Kiss Me pink mascara well. With some technique, it can remove waterproof eyeliner too, though it does melt it quite messily, so you'll need to wipe under your eyes again after using the cleansing oil. While it removes most lip makeup, you'll need to deal with Peripera tints that get stuck between dead skin cells separately. Other than that, it removes face makeup cleanly. The best part is being able to stock up during half-price sales. It's so affordable that I can use it generously for cleaning makeup air puffs too, which is another plus.
If you don't emulsify properly, it seems to cause excess oil and blemishes. If you're not careful around the hairline, it can cause oiliness there too. You need to emulsify thoroughly when cleansing. Also, it's disappointing that if used alone, you might still feel some residue on your skin.
This product is for combination to dry skin, so those with oily skin should use something else. With any cleansing oil, proper emulsification is key to avoiding blemishes. Don't massage for too long as debris can be reabsorbed into the skin - try to finish within 1-2 minutes. It's best to follow up The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Rich Cleansing Oil with a second cleanse. They sometimes have 50% off sales.
