I actually bought Clarins toner just to properly review this (no joke). Routine 1: Toner + Plant Gold Emulsion + Moisturizer: Since it's called Plant Gold 'Emulsion', I tried it right after toner. Post exfoliating toner, the moment I applied Plant Gold Emulsion, it formed a moisture barrier on my skin, but I immediately felt deep dryness underneath. (From personal experience, it felt just like using Laneige Cream Skin after an exfoliating toner.) Even though I applied my usual moisturizer, it felt like the cream couldn't properly penetrate my skin. Routine 2: Toner + Serum + Plant Gold Emulsion: Realizing I needed more hydration before the Plant Gold Emulsion, I ordered Clarins Chamomile Toner. While waiting for delivery, I added a hydrating serum. After exfoliating toner, I applied and patted in the hydrating serum, then pumped once and applied the Plant Gold Emulsion, patting it in. With the serum, the oil in Plant Gold Emulsion seemed to sit on top slightly, so I patted it in by hand. The feel was much better, but after about two hours, I felt a slight deep dryness. Routine 3: Clarins Chamomile Toner + Plant Gold Emulsion: After exfoliating toner, I applied one pump of Plant Gold Emulsion. The feeling of it sitting on top reduced significantly, with no deep or surface dryness, and my skin felt moisturized deep down even as time passed. With just toner and emulsion, it felt light like summer skincare, comfortable on the skin, but without any dryness. Conclusion: This product is designed to be used with Clarins toner. Recommended for: Those looking for a good winter base to pair with Clarins Toning Emulsion / Those wanting a really rich, moisturizing emulsion / Those who want to supply ample oil and moisture with an oil-infused emulsion, but find Clarins Double Serum too heavy.
1. The scent is divisive. For me, it was a dislike - it smelled like bamboo salt toothpaste. If you apply it at night before bed, you can feel refreshed all night as if you've brushed your teeth with bamboo salt toothpaste. 2. The dispenser. Typically, oil and emulsion come out together when pumping, but once, only oil spurted out and flew far. It seems like instead of mixing the two formulas at the bottle neck, it pumps them simultaneously to come out in one place... I haven't used it long enough to know how often this happens, but for a skincare product in the 80,000 won range for 35ml, shouldn't the packaging be better designed for higher satisfaction?
Use it with a really, really hydrating toner.
