My skin type is a disaster zone with acne, pigmented scars, redness, enlarged pores, and deep scars... I'm a combination skin type, using shades from dark 21 to light 23. The photos have been slightly adjusted to match the actual color as closely as possible. First, the finish: It sets to a semi-matte finish while adhering well to the skin. Even with powder on top, it doesn't feel excessively dry. I tend to apply a lot of powder, but with proper skincare, there's no flaking or cracking. Second, the coverage: These days, it's great that many foundations have such good coverage that you don't need a separate concealer! However, my skin is so problematic that even concealer mixed with foundation isn't enough. As I'll mention in the cons, due to the dark color, I mix it with a shade 13 concealer. For most people, full coverage and layering in specific areas should be sufficient! Lastly, the application: When you rub it between your fingers, there's a slight gritty feeling, but it's not bothersome. Actually, when applied to the skin with a brush, it spreads nicely! The setting time isn't too quick either, so you can dot it all over your face and blend it out easily.
The biggest issue is the color: It comes out way too dark. Even though it's Natural 21, it looks a bit dull on my shade 22 skin. Especially when it sets to a semi-matte finish, the color darkens. After a while, it turns into the pre-reformulation ginger shade of the Clio concealer. Second, the packaging: This is a personal gripe! The original Hera Black Cushion had a sleek, modern black design, but the foundation comes in a black tube. It feels like going from a black suit to a black tracksuit... I had high expectations for the packaging, so it's disappointing. Third, the strong scent: It has a strong fragrance that lets you know it's makeup from 10 meters away. Of course, it's not that extreme, but there's a 'whoosh' of scent when you apply it. I just thought it smelled like rouge, but sensitive individuals might find it a bit uncomfortable. It's an artificial rose scent with a hint of baby powder.
Overall, it's a high-quality, good foundation! However, considering the high price point, when compared to affordable and decent foundations from road shops, it doesn't offer standout benefits. It's not a foundation with any special strengths, just a normal, well-behaved one. So it's hard to say it's a particularly appealing product... Of course, this is just my personal opinion! When purchasing: - Be sure to test the color at the store! - Check the color after it's slightly patted or dried and set! - Works well with a dry puff
