Why isn't there a color-correcting shampoo? It seems all the reviews are focused on masks.
I tried a color-correcting shampoo for the first time after searching for a solution. My hair had gone from blue to sky blue~seaweed green after the dye faded, and I was lost.
The color alone is intimidatingly blue-purple. This is a treatment in its own right, so gloves are a must - thicker than nitrile, more like rubber gloves?
To maintain the blue tones, I wrapped my hair in plastic and left it on for about an hour.
The result? Wow! It immediately brought out the blue on the blue base and a silvery tone on the seaweed green parts.
It's like I dyed my hair with just color correction! Now I see why people use these shampoos.
It's easy to apply. When you put it on slightly damp hair, it lathers up nicely and spreads well.
Just make sure to distribute it evenly - it can look patchy otherwise.
It's much less staining than hair dye, so it's safer for your skin and bathroom. It washes off quickly.
It does damage your hair somewhat.
Make sure to use treatments, hair masks, and essences regularly for maintenance.
The color does wash out, of course.
It lasted 2-3 weeks the first time, seemed to fade a bit faster the second time.
After the third use, even the seaweed green didn't fade, and the silvery tone really held.
You can achieve blue hair with just color-correcting shampoo.
The color payoff and longevity definitely depend on how damaged your hair is! Always use treatments for maintenance, and rinsing with cold water seems to help the color last longer and fade less.
