Let's compare the Ivory and Petal shades!
First, I should mention that I've been a loyal user of Mamonde Total Solution BB Cream for 7 years, from 2015 until now. I'm essentially a nomad looking for a new base product due to its discontinuation. I really loved the Mamonde BB for its excellent skin finish.
To describe my skin type: when I used the Mamonde BB, people would say my skin looked like a peeled egg, and I often received compliments on my complexion. However, as I've aged, I've developed some pores in the T-zone, fine lines around the eyes and forehead, and when bare-faced, my T-zone tends to be sensitive, red, and prone to small blemishes. I don't get acne or have acne scars, which is why I've been satisfied with just BB cream coverage until now.
๐ฌ Color: Switching from BB cream to foundation, the color is really bright! I guess BB creams do have a grayish tint after all! I love the color - it's a perfect skin tone match.
๐ฌ๐ฌ Fragrance: After using one product for 7 years, my nose might have become less sensitive. The scent is nice and quite strong. I can smell it even when I move my arm away from my face after application!
๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ Coverage: While I don't have much to cover except pores and fine lines, it completely conceals any imperfections!
๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ Application: Wow. I've read many reviews about how thinly it applies, and it's true. It goes on very thinly while adhering well to the skin.
๐ฌ Settling into pores and fine lines: While the thin application is great, it doesn't completely avoid settling into fine lines. It also settles into larger pores. My previous BB cream didn't adhere as well, but it seemed to erase pores with just a few taps of the air puff.
When I applied this new foundation carelessly like I used to with my BB cream, it didn't cover my pores properly. I guess that's my fault - foundation isn't BB cream after all. I'll try to apply it more carefully in the future.
There's a slight settling into pores and fine lines, but it's not unusable. It improves when I apply powder! Still, I can't help but miss my old BB cream's pore-erasing ability.
๐ฌ๐ฌ Transfer: Is it because it's moisturizing? The transfer is significant. It's quite serious... My previous BB cream was also moisturizing but didn't transfer this much. When I pressed my finger on my face after application, it left a fingerprint. You can't use this alone - you absolutely must set it with powder!
I've always preferred a moisturizing base but dislike hair sticking to my face, so I've always used powder. The transfer doesn't bother me much, but if you don't like using powder, you should pay attention to this issue.
๐Now, let's analyze the Ivory and Petal shades.
I've always been complimented on my fair skin, so I boldly bought the full-size in Ivory. While it wasn't too light for me, I felt it would look more natural if it were half a shade darker. So, I bought a Petal refill and put it in the compact.
I'm planning to use Petal as a base and add Ivory to my forehead, nose, T-zone, and chin for a natural contouring effect.
I slightly adjusted the saturation and brightness of the photos because the original camera couldn't capture the difference between the two shades as well as the naked eye can.
As you can see in the photo, Ivory is indeed brighter. You could say Petal is Ivory with a bit more ivory tone added.
However, Petal isn't dark. It's less bright compared to Ivory, but using Petal gives you a natural fair complexion, while Ivory gives you a bright fair complexion.
My inner wrist is fairer than my face. For those with a similar difference between wrist and face color, take note! Ivory matches my wrist perfectly, while Petal matches my face.
๐ฌ I tried both the Espoir Taping Puff and a regular air puff. After trying, I prefer the Taping Puff!
๐ฌ๐ฌ I read online that liquid foundation and cushion foundation differ in pore coverage. I plan to buy the liquid Be Glow Foundation in Petal soon and write a comparison review with the cushion.
