While the product doesn't have essence flowing freely inside, there's enough to maintain hydration for the 10-20 minutes of use. When applied, there's a subtle cooling sensation (not overly intense, but individual experiences may vary) and you can feel your skin becoming refreshed (without refrigerating the product). The essence is slippery and takes a bit longer to absorb, but after checking my skin condition the next morning, I'm definitely considering repurchasing.
