A gentle, affordable shampoo with a pleasant scent and low pH ♥ I've used over 5 bottles of Kundal shampoo now. I've always preferred silicone and sulfate-free shampoos, so I've tried various brands like Organix and Hansalim. While there are more options these days, most natural shampoos tend to be stiff and don't lather well. The good ones are often expensive, making frequent use a bit of a burden. Among them, Organix (OGX) products were great - lots of variety, good lather, and easily available. I used them enthusiastically for a while, but later discovered they had other harmful ingredients instead of sulfates... yikes! I found this out belatedly thanks to the Hwahae app (why didn't I check that one earlier, silly me). Compared to that, Kundal shampoo has much gentler ingredients. Apart from fragrance, it's almost free of irritants. It's not stiff and lathers decently for a natural product! The cleansing power is lower than sulfate-containing products, which might actually be good for those with dry scalps. If you have an oily scalp, alternating with a stronger scalp shampoo works well! The low pH factor also reassures me. It's not only less irritating for the scalp but also beneficial for hair texture. I'm really satisfied with its silicone-free, sulfate-free, and low pH formula! (It's called a protein shampoo, but don't expect it to strengthen your hair like a protein hair pack would.) The fragrance is probably the only potentially harmful ingredient, but for me, scent is important in a shampoo. Unless you have extremely sensitive skin like atopic dermatitis, I think this level of fragrance is fine, and it's nice to have various scents to choose from. The Pink Grapefruit scent is exactly that - a fresh, citrusy grapefruit aroma 🍊. It's perfect for summer! Compared to other scents, it's lighter and less long-lasting (Fable and Clean Soap seemed to have stronger fragrances). In conclusion, I love Kundal shampoo! +Review update (2019): I've used several bottles of Kundal shampoo without issues. I knew it wasn't a strong cleanser, but my scalp was fine. However, the recent bottle I bought caused scalp acne...!!!! Just minutes after washing and drying my hair, I got these painful, large pimples suddenly. When I immediately switched to a different shampoo, they disappeared.. What's going on..? Kundal... why...? I'll have to take away a star, Kundal... 😢
The cleansing power is a bit lacking for oily scalps. Using this alone leaves scalp cleansing about 2% short. Of course, that's to be expected from natural-derived ingredients.
I use this product daily, but once or twice a week I use a stronger cleansing shampoo. Since I have an oily scalp and want to avoid seborrheic dermatitis, I need to thoroughly remove oil occasionally for that fresh, clean feeling.
