In the morning, after washing your face, gently exfoliate with the textured side to refine skin texture, then use the soft side to help the essence absorb. This leaves your skin perfectly hydrated and prepped. A particularly great feature is the fixed tweezers inside the lid, making it very hygienic!
ConsI haven't finished a whole container yet, so I'm not sure if it actually brightens the complexion as claimed. However, I'm satisfied with how the essence feels moisturizing without being sticky!
TipDuring dry winter months, you can start your day feeling fresh and hydrated by simply rinsing your face with water and then using these pads to even out your skin tone, without any uncomfortable tightness.

Honestly, I thought it would only be moisturizing right after using the pad, but the effect lasts quite a while! It lasts even longer if you apply an ampoule with it. I'd recommend this more for combination dehydrated skin or dry skin types rather than just oily skin. And the pads are truly non-irritating. They're gentle enough for even those with super sensitive skin to use. The soft side is so gentle that even if you use it firmly, there's minimal irritation. The textured side also seems much milder compared to other brands, so you can use it with confidence. The hygienic aspect is great too. Unlike other brands where the tweezers often lack proper storage and can easily get contaminated, these come with an easy and sanitary way to store the tweezers, which is super convenient. I really, really recommend this product. And the best part? The size of the pads!!! They're so large that you only need three sheets for a full face mask, eliminating the need to piece together multiple smaller ones.
ConsFirst off, I wouldn't get your hopes up for any brightening effects... Also, the textured side of the pad is so mild that I'm a bit skeptical about how effectively it removes dead skin cells... However, those with super sensitive skin will likely love this. I personally have quite resilient skin, so even when I scrubbed vigorously, there was no irritation.
TipIf you use the pad and then apply an ampoule about 5 minutes later, the hydration really lasts. And if you want a cooling, soothing effect, try storing them in the refrigerator before use - it feels great!

I used to use the first-generation First Essence, which was fine but a bit sticky, so I switched to a cheaper option. This time, I won The Hwahae Testers pads and tried them, honestly without much expectation. I thought they'd be similar to the old ones. Texture and feel: These pads didn't feel cheap compared to others. They have a slightly textured side for exfoliating dead skin cells and a smooth side for masking, both feeling soft. Even the textured side wasn't too rough. Usually, when pads are too saturated, they drip everywhere, which I dislike. These don't drip at all. Yet, they're still very hydrating and adhere well to the skin without sliding off, which I love. There was no deep dryness, and the surface felt moisturized without being sticky. As a side note, my mom, who's over 70, also tried them and was so satisfied that she wants to keep using them. She's never been happy with previous Hwahae Testers products, so this is a first!
ConsWhile there's not much to complain about, the hydration isn't dramatically different, and I didn't notice any brightening effects. First Essences typically contain fermented extracts for brightening, but this one seems less effective than before, which is disappointing. The price is high. I know First Essences tend to be pricey, but there are better and cheaper toner pads out there, so I'm not sure if these are worth it. Maybe I'd buy them occasionally when they're on sale?
