It was tough doing it myself, even though I only did the roots. Since I'm not a professional, my application speed was slow, and leaving the solution on for too long caused more damage than getting it done at a salon. My hands are slow, so the solution ended up sitting on my hair for too long, and my scalp was a bit sore too. You definitely need to use the second solution and do a deep conditioning treatment!
And it gets really hot doing it yourself, so going to the salon might be better in the summer!

My hair has a lot of volume and I only use a perm solution periodically, so the condition wasn't too damaged when I used it.
I only did the roots above the ears, and both the first and second solutions were just the right amount!
Since it was my first time using it, it took me about 3 hours to do it myself. The perm turned out really well, so I think I'll use it again next time haha.
