If I had to describe the color, it's like shade 4 Cassel Brick but with a brown tint added, making it a deeper color. When applied to the lips, it shows up as a red-brown with a stronger red undertone. While it's generally the deepest shade in this line, it's not overwhelmingly dark when actually applied, which I found quite nice. It can even look somewhat subdued depending on how you view it. Recently, deep undertone colors have been trendy, so when we talk about brown lips, many tend to have grayish or dull undertones. However, this Scarlet Brown doesn't have any grayish or dull tints - it's a brown lip color with a decent level of saturation. Although it's a velvet lipstick, it doesn't apply thickly or with intense pigmentation like other velvet lips. Instead, it goes on thinly and sheerly. You can build up the color with multiple applications, but due to its thin and sheer nature, it doesn't become extremely deep or intense. If you're like me and want to use it as a base or prefer a thin, sheer color payoff, you'll love this lipstick. The application feels a bit stiff at first, but after applying it once or twice, it glides on smoothly. It smudges well, and while it wears off like any lipstick when eating, it leaves less residue on straws compared to other velvet lipsticks when drinking. The scent is the same caramel popcorn fragrance as the recently released Double Layer Over Velvet. This is just personal preference, but I personally prefer lipsticks where the lipstick and stick guard are tightly connected, like Rom&nd's Zero Matte Lipstick or Peripera's Ink Mood Matte Stick. As someone who loves matte lips, I find that matte lipsticks often break when using them. Especially products shaped like this Black Rouge lipstick are more prone to breaking. That's why I usually bought lipsticks in the style of Ink Mood Matte Stick when I wanted a lipstick over a tint, but I fell for this one because of its pretty color... Also, because it applies thinly and sheerly, those who are used to highly pigmented lipsticks might find it too light on the first application. Lastly, it has the same caramel popcorn scent as the Double Layer Over Velvet, so be cautious if you dislike this fragrance.
