The mascara wand has a curved shape, almost like a jar. Instead of following the curve to apply, I found it works better to use the blunt end of the wand vertically. This technique gives a more dramatic effect.

It tends to smudge when applied to the lower lashes, so I wouldn't recommend using it there.

I've been using this since my early 20s. When I want my lashes to look like I'm wearing falsies or extensions, I apply a lot. It beautifully clumps the lashes together, and there are tiny black fibers inside that make your lashes look endlessly long. My lashes are quite short, but this makes them longer, which I love.
