The shampoo bar has a sea-inspired teal color, but it doesn't stain your hair or skin, which is great. However, it did turn my yellow conditioner bar green! The texture is similar to other Lush shampoo bars - moderately firm with a softer exterior. I'd say it's somewhere between Ethique and Tone 28 in terms of consistency. The soft surface doesn't dry quickly, so a soap dish is a must. It lathers well, cleanses thoroughly, and has a refreshing feel that's perfect for summer use. The lather is excellent, but I'll explain why later. This product meets five out of six criteria I consider important when choosing cosmetics: ✓ Cruelty-free (not tested on animals) ✓ Vegan ✓ Palm oil-free ✗ Free from harmful chemicals ✓ Ethically produced ✓ Zero-waste packaging While they haven't completely eliminated surfactants, I appreciate Lush's ongoing efforts to improve their ingredients. When I bought it, the shampoo bar was covered in coarse salt, which was inconvenient to use. After about a week, all the granules fell off, leaving just the bar itself. I wonder why they even included them... Fortunately, the renewed version seems much more user-friendly. While researching the ingredients, I discovered something interesting - Lush changed their surfactant formula last May. I've always been disappointed with Lush's use of surfactants (sodium lauryl sulfate - a chemical that creates rich lather but is harsh on skin and the environment), so this change piqued my interest. After some digging, I found that they've switched from palm oil-based sodium lauryl sulfate to coconut oil-based sodium coco sulfate. The upside is that palm oil production destroys wildlife habitats and increases carbon emissions, so avoiding it is a significant step for a cosmetics company. I hope Lush continues to honor this palm oil-free commitment. The downside is that while it's better than palm oil, over half of coconut oil's components are lauric acid, so the effect on the skin might not be drastically different. Some say the molecular structure makes it better for absorption and the environment, but I haven't noticed any significant improvements yet. - ch******Combination SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsDark CirclesInner DrynessWrinkles/ElasticityRecommendedFeb 4, 2024
I was drawn to the unique salt-embedded design, and hearing about its excellent volumizing properties, I decided to give it a try since I have fine hair that could use some extra body. Compared to Salt and Phlot, this one feels a bit more squeaky clean. Surprisingly, right after washing and drying, my hair feels slightly puffed up as if there's an air layer, which I think would last longer on shorter hair. With my long locks, I didn't notice the effect lasting too long. As with most shampoo bars, the common drawback seems to be the inconvenience of storage. Also, given the vibrant colors of Lush shampoo bars, I suspect they contain quite a bit of dye. After noticing the soap dish getting stained, I now keep it in a cotton mesh bag hung on the shower holder. When I used Flyaway Hair exclusively for about a week after alternating with Salt and Phlot, I experienced some itchiness, as if my scalp had become drier. I use a cotton mesh bag, but instead of rubbing it directly on my head, I only use the bag for storage. When washing my hair, I take the bar out to lather up, and before putting it back, I wipe off as much foam as possible without rinsing. This minimizes water contact, allowing for quicker drying and slower product depletion, which I find beneficial.
