I apply this with a cotton pad and the hydration is completely different from a regular toner. Since it's an emulsion, that makes sense, but I can really feel how much more moisture and nourishment it delivers. My skin texture has noticeably improved since I started using it. The fragrance isn't particularly strong, but I'm really happy with how it performs and I keep using it. When I saturate a cotton pad and apply it all over my face, the emulsion soaks into the pad really well. I finished my fermented toner and ended up going back to Origins, just like I used in college! Even though it's called an emulsion, it really feels like a hydrating toner. I used to get confused about that too. It's a toner I can use all year round, it doesn't feel sticky, and my skin feels refreshed and healthier with it! The only real downside is that it dispenses quite generously, which can be surprising at first. You can pour it into your palm to apply, but if you use it with a cotton pad, it works beautifully as both a treatment and a toner.
