After searching extensively for a gentle shampoo in the US and visiting various stores, I discovered the ALAFFIA brand at Whole Foods. Ingredients: While there are some unregistered components (like vanilla extract), I haven't experienced any skin irritation so far. Texture: It lathers well. Though the hair feels quite stiff after shampooing alone, like washing with bar soap, it becomes soft and manageable after conditioning and drying. Scent: I'm quite sensitive to fragrances. Wanting a cooling effect for summer, I chose the 'Vanilla Mint' scent. It's not mentholated, but rather reminiscent of spearmint gum. The lavender scent in their line was too strong for my taste when I sampled it in-store. Price: Compared to other sulfate-free shampoos, it's reasonably priced, so I don't feel guilty using it generously. Other benefits: I've noticed less hair fall. Though I'm also taking biotin and collagen supplements, so I'm not sure if it's the shampoo or the supplements, but I'm happy with the results either way. As someone with permed hair, I'm also pleased with how well it maintains my curls. When rinsing, the hair feels stiff like it's been washed with bar soap, making it challenging to work your fingers through to the scalp. If not rinsed thoroughly, it can lead to itchiness and potential dandruff. However, with a thorough rinse, these issues are resolved. While the shampoo lathers well, for an even richer lather, try shampooing twice. The second wash will produce a more abundant foam.
