I've been using this as a toner for nearly a decade. Whenever I switch to other products, I always regret it and come back to this one. It effectively removes any residue or dead skin cells that weren't cleaned off during face washing. As someone with oily skin, I feel it provides quite good hydration after use. Despite containing alcohol, it doesn't dry out or cause deep dryness, which I really appreciate. I couldn't really feel the astringent effect or any pore-tightening benefits. The most critical drawback is that it's discontinued domestically, so you have to buy it from overseas, which is a real pain. - Hwahae UserDry SkinRecommendedNov 10, 2020
I was worried that the low price might mean lower quality, and that it might run like water or leave my skin dry after application. But I was pleasantly surprised by how moisturizing and nice it actually is. I deliberately chose the unscented version, but there's still a lingering smell that made me wonder what was going on. It's tolerable though. Even when I layer it multiple times due to dryness, it absorbs well into my skin. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinOct 13, 2020
From the first day of use, it caused itching... Not good at all... I bought the international version from an online retailer. I thought the original would be gentler, but that was a big mistake. On the first day of application, it felt dry and a bit itchy. After using it for a few days, my face kept itching. I wondered if I had eaten something wrong, so I continued using it for a few more days. Even while working at the office, I kept scratching. It was so itchy... Later, I developed bleeding, oozing, and my skin was in terrible condition... I couldn't take it anymore, so I called the Korean Thayers headquarters. I asked why this was happening with the original version when I never had issues with the Rose or Lavender variants. The employee explained that the ingredients in products distributed domestically differ slightly from those in international versions. Domestically, they remove preservatives because people dislike them, while international versions remain unchanged. The employee mentioned that even though the Witch Hazel Rose and Lavender I've used before were labeled alcohol-free, the international products contain phenoxyethanol. The 'Astringent Original' that caused my reaction also includes denatured alcohol. I don't recommend this product... Everyone, please be careful when using it. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinDec 31, 2019
The hydration was better than I expected, and I really liked the generous size of the product. After applying, my cheeks became a bit red, and I noticed some blemishes appearing. It seems my super sensitive skin is reacting to it. - mu******Combination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinOct 20, 2019
To be honest, I'm not sure about the advantages of this toner. Recently, due to the changing seasons, my skin has been dry, so I've been using toner for cleansing. Before pouring my usual cleansing toner into the sink, I pour this one in first as a disinfectant for the basin. On the bright side, it's a bit of a life hack to use it for other purposes. If you use a moderate amount, it doesn't cause blemishes and is somewhat usable, which is why I've given it three stars. 1. It's drying. Perhaps due to the alcohol content, the skin becomes extremely dry after use. If you think of it like other water-based toners and try to layer it on your skin, you'll likely experience increasing tightness on your face. In this respect, it doesn't seem to function well as a toner. 2. The smell is... unpleasant. I've always thought I could handle toners with divisive scents and generally considered myself not too sensitive to smells. But this one is truly unbearable. Don't expect it to smell like regular alcohol just because it's an alcohol toner. It has more of a harmful industrial chemical or ethanol-like odor. Since it's an alcohol-based toner, it can also be used as a disinfectant! Thayers toner is often used by people with blemish-prone skin, right? It's great for disinfecting the skin before and after extracting blemishes, as well as for sterilizing extraction tools. - wt*****Oily SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedSep 13, 2019
I bought this for times when I can't wash my face. I deliberately chose one with alcohol, but with the simplest and best ingredients. It turned out to be even better than expected! Unlike other alcohol-based toners that left my skin dry immediately after use, requiring instant moisturizing, this one actually leaves my skin more hydrated than before. Personally, I had a week where I couldn't wash my face (lol). While I didn't develop dermatitis, my sebum and dead skin cells were at their peak. On the seventh day, I generously soaked a cotton pad with this toner and gently wiped my face multiple times with minimal pressure... and voila! My skin returned to its pre-week state, maybe even better! This was during the peak of summer, and I loved how it left my skin so hydrated that I didn't need any additional moisturizer. For those looking for an alcohol-based toner that stays true to its primary function, I highly recommend this one! I thought it might have a strong alcohol scent like Clinique's toner, but surprisingly, it has an odd smell - perhaps from the witch hazel extract? The scent dissipates quickly after application, so it's not a major concern. However, if you're sensitive to fragrances, you might prefer a version with added scents. Also, I've rarely seen this sold offline, which could be slightly inconvenient for some. Frequent use might increase sebum production due to the alcohol content and cotton pad friction. Using it once a day, like as a morning cleanse substitute, seems to be the sweet spot! (I skip toner in the evening since I do a double cleanse) - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinAtopic SkinMay 7, 2019
Since this product contains alcohol, it could be useful for astringent and soothing purposes. I'm actually writing this review to highlight a drawback. I have super sensitive skin that's prone to occasional blemishes. I've always used Thayers Medicated Astringent, but once I decided to try this Original product alongside it. Surprisingly, while I had no issues with the Medicated version, this one caused itching and redness every time I used it. Confused, I compared the ingredients of both products and found they were almost identical, except for one thing - the Original contains fragrance. Wondering if this was the culprit, I tested it a few more times, and each application resulted in redness and what looked like a rash. While this might be fine for most people, I wanted to share my experience for those with atopic or super sensitive skin. Of course, some very sensitive individuals might avoid alcohol-based products altogether, but for those who use them for disinfecting or astringent purposes, it's worth being cautious. If you're sensitive to fragrances, you might want to be careful with this one. Ironically, I've never had a reaction to the Medicated version, which has a strong scent due to camphor but doesn't contain added fragrance. - mi********Combination SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedJan 4, 2019
I bought the 355ml bottle from Interpark for just over 10,000 won. I purchased it with pores in mind, without considering my skin type. When layered multiple times, it absorbs well, leaving my skin feeling sufficiently hydrated without needing to apply additional toner. There's a slight tingling sensation initially, which becomes tolerable over time, but those with super sensitive skin should be cautious. It's likely to be used often as a wipe-off toner, which means you'll end up using more product than what actually goes on your face each time. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinFeb 9, 2018
I've tried various Rose Petal Unscented products, but this is my first time using this specific one. As someone with acne-prone skin, I'm planning to incorporate this into my routine. There's nothing particularly bad to mention. Perhaps the only concern is that it comes in a plastic container, so I feel like I should use it up quickly. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinOct 12, 2017
For wiping your face with a cotton pad, there's no toner quite like this one. I used to avoid using cotton pads, worried they might irritate my skin. But after seeing a beauty blogger use this toner to prep her skin before makeup, I decided to give it a try. It's likely to be great for those with oily skin. I've noticed fewer blemishes since I started using it. Before, I always used to break out... I bought this because there wasn't an alcohol-free version available, but it was quite irritating at first. If you have sensitive skin, you should opt for an alcohol-free product. It's probably best avoided if you have super sensitive skin. Even I experienced some redness for over a week. It seems to require an adjustment period. The fragrance is also quite strong. This should only be used as an exfoliating toner. After cleansing, wipe your face with it. Even after double cleansing, the cotton pad gets dirty... Use that same pad to clean around and behind your ears too. The amount of dirt and dead skin cells is surprising. Wipe your neck as well, then apply a neck massage cream for a refreshing feeling. Afterwards, wait a bit, and even if you can't do the seven-skin method, try the three-skin method while pressing acupressure points below your ears and along your jaw.
