I purchased the Mentholatum Acnes Gel based on my friend's recommendation for treating closed comedones. I don't usually have severe breakouts, just a few small ones, but a few days ago I got a slightly larger pimple and about 2 acne spots, so I started using this gel. 1. It has a cooling sensation. My skin was really irritated from improper cleansing, so when I applied this to my acne, it felt soothing and calming. 2. It clears acne. I've seen results from using this product, which is rare for me with acne treatments. Since I only have closed comedones, I'm not sure how effective it would be for severe, cystic acne. 3. The amount is generous. One purchase lasts me over 6 months. It's also reasonably priced at around 12,000 won. It used to be sold at Olive Young, but the brand seems to have disappeared lately.
Cons1. As an acne treatment product, the fact that it contains 7 irritating ingredients is a bit concerning. Personally, I didn't experience any pain, itchiness or stinging, but sensitive skin types should be cautious. 2. When applied, this gel can clump up and leave a white, powdery residue that flakes off. And if applied too thickly, it can peel off like dead skin. 3. If accidentally applied to open acne or pimple wounds, it can be very painful and stinging. I once mistakenly put it on a popped pimple, and my face just burned and hurt so much.
TipApplying it with a cotton swab is more convenient! And since it's a gel, wearing a headband while sleeping can prevent it from getting stuck in your hair. If you have closed comedones, definitely give this a try. It's affordable considering the amount, and it really helps clear up all my acne. This is a holy grail product for me!

And if I keep putting them on, I get frustrated seeing them stuck all over the place. But with this, just lightly brushing it on with a cotton swab and letting it dry forms a film that works great as a patch substitute. It actually helps calm things down too.
ConsIf you apply it after popping pimples, it will sting quite a bit. That's how strong the irritation is. And after it dries, even just brushing against it will cause the residue to flake off. It's best not to touch the areas you've applied it to.
TipFor those of you who think applying a lot or just putting it directly on pimples will really help calm things down - I absolutely do not recommend doing that. In my case, I tried that thinking it would help, but it just led to more bumps coming up in that area and my skin peeling due to the irritation. Just lightly spreading it on with a cotton swab is best.

When I got acne, I was worried about scarring, but applying the clear gel thinly helped reduce the time the acne wound took to heal, so deep scarring did not occur.
ConsI was concerned about the ingredients... There was a stinging sensation when using it, which I suspect may have been the reason. Sensitive individuals may want to take this into consideration.
TipApplying it thinly, rather than thickly, to create a protective layer was effective!

ConsAs soon as I applied it, it stung a little, and a few minutes later, it felt like gunk was being pushed out. Many people said the scent was unpleasant, but I thought it had a refreshing herbal? aroma. However, it was quite expensive and required a lot of effort to use.

At most, I suppose you could say it has good spreadability?
ConsThese days, I've been getting a lot of pimple-like things, so I tried it out just in case. But as I expected... The smell after applying it is really strange, and above all, my face feels too irritated. At first, I thought this was just how the product was, so I tried observing it for a bit. But when I looked in the mirror, my skin had turned really red, and it was a mess. Of course, there may be some people who it suits well, but for those with sensitive skin, I really don't recommend it.

I don't use it exclusively, but when I apply it to troubled areas and leave it on overnight, the breakouts subside significantly.
ConsThere are times when it feels irritating and stinging. Also, the areas where I applied this product became dry and cracked.

I had also seen a YouTube video where Dipa mentioned that the Acnes ingredients were gentle, so I had some trust in the brand. In the beginning, I felt like my minor blemishes were improving. So I also bought the matching cleansing foam in a 1+1 deal to use together. The main benefit I noticed was that my small blemishes seemed to be calming down.
ConsBut the disappointment was immense when I realized that my troubles were actually getting worse because of this product. After cleansing, my whole face would turn strangely red. I tried to soothe it with toners and clay masks, but I didn't even consider that the Acnes product could be the culprit. Instead, I would slather on more Acnes on my blemished areas, which was very stinging at times. I thought the mild effects meant it was working and the irritation was just part of the process, but it was just so bizarre. The next day, my skin condition had significantly worsened. At that point, I decided to minimize my skincare routine, using only toner and cream, and stopped using the Acnes cleansing foam as well. The next day, the redness and irritation had visibly calmed down. Even right after cleansing, the redness had substantially reduced. I learned the hard way that what works for others may not necessarily work for me.

ConsIt stings a bit when applied. I would not recommend this for those who want a non-irritating product.

After applying it, I could see that my acne was slightly subsiding.
ConsThe smell is a bit pungent... When I apply it on the acne under my eyes, it stings a lot. It might be good to use when I'm feeling sleepy while studying.

ConsI've used powder skin, lotion, foam cleansing, and spot treatments, but while they seem to soothe my skin, they don't seem to heal or prevent it. After using them, my skin felt hot and stinging, so I stopped using them, but there was no improvement whatsoever.
