Cetaphil is famous for its moisturizers, you know! I used to use mineral sunscreens, but they were hard to remove and irritated my skin when cleansing. Also, the typical powdery finish of mineral sunscreens was too drying for my dry skin. So I was considering switching to chemical or hybrid sunscreens when I got the chance to try Cetaphil thanks to my friend... and it's amazing! Though oily skin types might find it a bit uncomfortable. The ingredients are top-notch, with Tinosorb M as the main UV filter, along with Tinosorb S, Uvinul (the UVB-blocking one, not Uvinul A Plus), and Avobenzone. This combination provides excellent photostability. Avobenzone can become less stable when mixed with zinc or titanium, potentially reducing sun protection if you use a foundation with titanium. But since the main filters here are Tinosorb M and S, it should be fine. Plus, the physical ingredients in foundations are usually coated, so you can feel confident about the sun protection. What's great is that this sunscreen has Cetaphil's renowned moisturizing power. After my 7-skin routine, I can skip essence and cream, using this sunscreen as a moisturizer without any tightness. It absorbs quickly without feeling slippery. There are some downsides, which I'll mention below, but overall, I could even handle dry, heated indoor environments in the dead of winter. It's gentle and I'm very satisfied. For those who are picky about UV filters like me, you probably won't find a better sunscreen than this.
ConsThe downside, which is also kind of an upside, is that Tinosorb M is excellent at blocking UVA rays. It can block the full spectrum when combined with Mexoryl, which is great... but because it has both chemical and physical properties, there's some white cast. And it gives quite a... shiny finish. The white cast isn't as severe as pure mineral sunscreens - using two finger lengths just slightly brightens your face, which is fine. The biggest drawback is that it's a bit sticky? It absorbs well, so it's not slippery at all. But it is sticky. It's hard to describe the feeling in words... I figured out how to deal with the stickiness when I was about halfway through the bottle. As I mentioned in the pros, if you skip essence and cream and use this as your moisturizer, the stickiness is somewhat reduced. As for the shine... it looks like a natural glow if you apply a matte foundation over it.
TipSolving stickiness: Use the sunscreen instead of a moisturizer. Apply it like a cream. Even though I have dry skin and tend to get flaky in winter, this worked well... it's not drying at all. To prevent deep dryness, do a 3-skin routine before applying the sunscreen. It absorbs completely, doesn't dry out your skin, and greatly reduces stickiness. Dealing with shine: It pairs well with matte foundations. It worked nicely with Double Wear and Revlon too. The matte foundation turns the shine into a natural glow. But make sure to give the sunscreen time to set before applying foundation, otherwise you might wipe off the precious sun protection you just applied. And use a puff instead of a brush, patting rather than swiping for best results.

It's an absolute must-have for my travels.
ConsWhile the sun protection is undeniably effective, it's excessively rich and leaves such a shiny finish that I can't apply too much.

ConsOh, it's completely liquid! I opened the cap without knowing and it dripped everywhere. That's strike one. Earlier I said it absorbs well, but that's because it's extremely oily. If you have oily skin, you might turn into an oil tycoon using this. I usually apply sunscreen generously, so I slathered it on, but it gave my face an unintended 'wet look' effect. I had to furiously cleanse and apply something else. That's strike two. Also, this product contains an ingredient - I can't remember the name exactly - but it's said that 'when exposed to sunlight, it may cause cancer due to ~~~'. What kind of sunscreen potentially causes cancer when exposed to sunlight? That's strike three. This product really hit the trifecta of frustrations.
TipHere's a real pro tip: you can skip all other skincare steps and just apply this, and your skin won't feel dry at all. Note: This may not apply to those with extremely dry skin.

At first, it may appear milky white, but over time it is absorbed naturally.
ConsThe formula is watery, making it difficult to control the application. After applying, the face has an excessive shine. It seems very oily... it's sticky.
TipAfter applying, gently patting the face with your fingers like a lotion can reduce the shine a bit. Personally, I used to use the 30ml pump version, and I think that one is better.

However, the stubborn kabuki-style makeup shadows that wouldn't go away even when applied thinly made me switch to this one. I bought Cetaphil because it's a dermatological cosmetic brand, and many doctors highly recommend it due to its good ingredients. It's definitely non-whitening, and the UV protection is excellent. The ingredients are also quite simple for a sunscreen.
ConsWhy is it that sunscreens are always either oily or whitening, with no in-between? This sunscreen has no whitening at all, but it gives an insane amount of oiliness. Even when I apply it thinly, the oil sheen is as intense as Kim Hee-ae's. I'm too embarrassed to go out without washing my face, so I have to start my sunscreen nomad journey again. Don't buy this one!
TipThis sunscreen would probably be great for those with dry, cracked skin, or for using when going to the ski slopes in the winter. But for those of us with oily skin, especially in the summer, I'd strongly recommend against using this one.
