Skin type of the reviewer: I have combination skin with an extremely oily T-zone and dry cheeks. Overall, my skin lacks moisture, so it's also combination dehydrated - quite a challenging skin type! While I'm not particularly sensitive to cosmetic ingredients, I do get blemishes depending on my condition (menstruation, lack of sleep, excessive carb intake, etc.). Post-use rating: 2/5 I was intrigued by the product name 'Bubble Clay Mask' and decided to purchase it without much research into its ingredients or Hwahae reviews. Well... it was just okay. After using it, my skin felt somewhat softer and smoother, but there wasn't a noticeable reduction in blackheads or whiteheads. It's fascinating how bubbles form as soon as you apply the product, requiring quick application. It does give the impression of working on your pores. Fragrance: 4/5 Although it contains fragrance, the scent itself wasn't unpleasant. It's like a powdery floral scent? Packaging: 5/5 It comes with a (tiny) built-in spatula and a double cap, which shows some consideration for hygiene. Ingredients: 1/5 ❗️It contains 9% kaolin, which could be beneficial for absorbing excess sebum. ❗️Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Cocamidopropyl Betaine seem to be the main cleansing agents. Surprisingly, there's another anionic surfactant. These are harsh cleansing ingredients, often used due to their low cost. As consumers become more ingredient-savvy, these surfactants are being avoided. They can cause irritation, inflammation, and allergies - overall harmful to the body. ❗️Phenoxyethanol is a synthetic preservative alternative to parabens. While approved for use at less than 1% in the US and Europe, all synthetic preservatives have the potential to cause allergies and disrupt the endocrine system. It's disappointing that this product doesn't follow the trend towards natural preservatives (like honey, coconut, grapefruit) in the cosmetics industry. ❗️Methylparaben - a well-known high-risk preservative that consumers are very aware of. I'll refrain from further comment. ❗️Fragrance - while I'm indifferent to its presence, it's not a necessary ingredient. Why include it? ❗️Acrylates Copolymer - as a big fan of Dipani, I know this is a microplastic. Overall, despite containing multiple surfactants prioritizing cleansing power, I'm not sure if it's effective enough. Residue: 5/5 As the bubbles form and you massage with lukewarm water, it's really hard to rinse off. It's extremely slippery. Even after scrubbing hard on the back of my hand, it leaves residue (see attached photo). When using an exfoliating toner afterwards, it comes off in dark smudges. It feels like some residue might remain even after using an exfoliating toner. I'm not sure if it's low pH, but it feels slippery like a low pH foam cleanser even after rinsing. Hence, 5 stars for residue. Although it contains extracts and carbonated water that could help with skin barrier and soothing, they're in small quantities. Since surfactants are listed at the beginning of the ingredient list, I recommend not leaving it on your skin for too long. If you've lost the spatula, absolutely do not apply it with your hands! Also, make sure to follow up with a water-based toner for a second cleanse. As a student learning about cosmetics, please let me know in the comments if there's anything I should correct. Thank you! - sc***********Combination SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedMay 25, 2021
As a student living abroad, I was really stressed about finding the right products for my sensitive skin, especially since COVID made it hard to test cosmetic samples. My skin was acting up every day, and I was struggling alone. But since I started using this product, I feel proud and happy every time I wash my face. It's like The Hwahae Testers came to my rescue! So far, I'm using it well without any particular complaints! - po******Combination SkinMay 29, 2020
Using this product is fun. It makes you smile when you look in the mirror. It helps clean out your pores effectively. It can sting if you use it when your skin is sensitive. The container is inconvenient. It's a stiff jar that feels like you might hurt yourself opening it. This is a common complaint about Elizavecca's packaging, as they use the same type for all their products. Given that they've stuck with this design for years, it seems unlikely they'll change it, so I just put up with it. I'm not the type to use one product consistently, so I often left it in the bathroom unused. Being in a jar, water probably got in while using it, and later it would look spoiled. I bought four jars but never finished a single one. I'd recommend the Neogen gauze peeling pads instead. They don't spoil even if left for a long time, you make them fresh when you use them so they're more hygienic, and they leave your skin much softer than this product. It's good to apply after bathing when your pores are open. If you have sensitive skin, either avoid using it or apply your usual serum or ampoule before using this product. - ks******Dry SkinSebum/BlackheadsInner DrynessEnlarged PoresRednessMar 24, 2020
This is a product I used to love using back in the day. The bubbles that formed all over my face after application gave me such a pleasant feeling. The sound of the carbonation popping was also audibly satisfying. I really enjoyed this product because it made me feel like I was giving my skin a proper treatment. I don't think this product provides any clear benefits for skin care. The results were rather disappointing compared to how it feels when using it. Now, I don't see any reason to continue using it... - wj********Combination SkinAcne SkinRecommendedJan 30, 2020
I tend to have acne scars that leave quite a bit of redness on my facial skin. After consistent use, I definitely noticed an improvement in my complexion. It feels like you go through the product quickly when you apply it generously. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinRecommendedOct 6, 2019
The abundant foam seems to work its magic all over my skin. I didn't notice any effect on pore reduction. Use a moderate amount when applying. - 95******Combination SkinSensitive SkinSep 29, 2017
I switched from sheet masks to this product, and I find the effects quite similar. It's great for cleaning pores and removing dead skin cells. I've noticed that products like this tend to show better results the morning after use rather than immediately. The foam starts to form within seconds of application. If you haven't applied enough, it bubbles up quickly, so it might take some practice to get it right. - su*********Combination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinApr 3, 2017
* I absolutely adore the texture of this mask! It feels just like pudding on your skin. * The tingling sensation from the mask is so captivating. * This mask gives you a real purifying feeling for your face. * The mask size is super convenient, perfect for travel and daily use. Unfortunately, my skin experienced some redness after removing the mask. However, that's quite common with charcoal masks as they work hard to remove impurities from the skin. * After using this mask, I recommend following up with Origins' Out of Trouble mask and Leaders' Snail mask to heal and protect your skin. * A light application of the mask is good enough, but if you're feeling adventurous, try a heavier application for an even more interesting experience (see photo 2). - Hwahae UserNormal SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinFeb 25, 2017
After using it, my skin felt moisturized and soft. It seems great for improving skin texture. The downside is that it's difficult to wash off. It takes quite a while of scrubbing to get it completely clean. When you're too lazy to cleanse separately, it's convenient to apply before showering and wash it off together. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinFeb 11, 2017
It seems to be getting rid of blackheads and rough texture! And after using it once, my skin just feels, how do I put it... really beautiful!! So much!! It also brightens up my complexion, and it's fun to use with all the foam. I think I'll definitely buy this again! While they say it's for daily mask routine, those with super sensitive skin might want to be careful. After using it for 4 days straight, I noticed some larger blemishes cleared up quite a bit. I think using it once a week might be best.
