When you first apply and massage it in, you feel a slight warmth that gives a nice massage-like sensation. I love that warmth so much that I find myself rolling and massaging even more. It's a unique feeling I haven't experienced with other products. While it may not be the most effective at removing makeup, it gives me a sense of healing and makes me feel like my skin is improving. I'm not sure how well it removes makeup. It's fine though, since I follow up with a foam cleanser anyway. The price is quite steep for a cleansing balm.
