The official name of this product is L'ombre et la Rose, which means 'the shadow and the rose'. The coral-colored shade in the middle is a blush called Intrigue, while the lavender shade on the left is an eyeshadow called Lilac Rose, and the deep brown shade on the right is an eyeshadow called Bourbon Rose. Chantecaille's limited edition products always seem to be beautifully crafted. The intricate rose patterns look like they were created through an artisanal process, not just regular cosmetics. The color payoff is also incredibly vibrant and lovely. As expected from Chantecaille, the texture is very smooth and blendable, with great longevity. The central blush could actually be used as an eyeshadow as well, as the pigmentation is quite strong. Unfortunately, the muted coral tone doesn't suit my skin tone very well, so I've been focusing on using the two eyeshadows on the sides.
Cons
The fingerprint recognition feature on the case is really powerful. Once you open it and start using it, fingerprints get all over the surface. And since it's a powder eyeshadow, there's quite a bit of fallout, so the inside gets messy. Others say they don't experience much fallout, but for me, aside from cream eyeshadows, I tend to notice powder fallout with most products. And this is a discontinued product. It was released as a limited edition in Spring 2007 for $175, and briefly came back as an Oprah Magazine Deal of the Day in 2010 for $79. I purchased a new one on eBay for $55. It's so beautiful that I wish I could gift it to someone, but it's discontinued, which is a shame. If only they would bring back all these gorgeous limited edition products as permanent items. I have seen them pop up occasionally at flea markets. However, even if they brought it back, I don't think I'd repurchase. The quantity is just too much - it's 0.77 oz (2.2g), and I have no idea how long that would last me. I'm not too concerned about the expiration since powder products tend to last a long time, but still, this seems like an amount meant to last a lifetime. I can't possibly use just this one eyeshadow palette every day.
Tip
As mentioned earlier, the blush has such great pigmentation and adhesion that it can be used as an eyeshadow without any issues. In fact, this product has separate ingredient listings for the eyeshadows and the blush, but it seems the blush ingredients were somehow omitted during the registration process. + It appears the blush ingredients were not actually omitted, but the Hwahae team separately analyzed and listed the blush ingredients. When you search for the Chantecaille brand, you can find the blush ingredients listed separately. Looking at the blush ingredients, I was a bit concerned about using it around the eye area, but when I wore it for a few hours, I didn't have any problems. + I've added product shots and swatches. Natural lighting would be best, but the fluorescent lighting did distort the colors a bit. My phone camera isn't the greatest, unfortunately.
