The formula is matte and has great glide!
ConsThe typical Nars packaging stickiness... It's also present in the lipstick... That's a bit disappointing..

ConsThe pinkish tone? I would have preferred if it was a deep reddish-brown instead
TipI bought it thinking it would be similar to the limited edition VIP red, but it wasn't!

I wanted to buy a toned-down red lipstick without any pink or orange tones, and this was exactly the color I had in mind. It's a true red with a hint of black, giving it a deep feel, but it's not too dark or severe. Compared to Shanghai Express, reviews say there's almost no difference, but Fire Down Below is a bit darker and warmer. Among my lipstick collection, it's very similar to Revlon Dahlia. Dahlia was a color that suited me so well that I would wear it alone every winter, but its poor longevity led me to purchase Fire Down Below. In comparison, the shades are almost identical, and both have a warmer feel rather than a cool one. They're both toned-down reds without any pink or orange, with a similar base. The only difference is that Fire Down Below is a bit darker, while Dahlia leans more red. [Texture] It's a semi-matte, but not overly so - it's closer to a satin finish than a true matte. The level of matteness is similar to MAC Matte lipsticks, but it doesn't dry out as much over time. Honestly, it doesn't glide on super smoothly, but the fact that it doesn't emphasize flakes or lines is very nice. [Pigmentation] It has the best pigmentation of any lipstick I've used so far. It's best to dab it on in layers rather than just applying straight from the tube, and even a few dabs can give you an intense color payoff. This was my first time trying a Nars lipstick, and I'm now eager to collect more of them.
ConsThe only downside is that the lipstick is too small. Placed next to MAC, Shu Uemura, or Yves Saint Laurent, it looks like a toy. The scent is also really strange, which makes me hesitant to use it. The odd fragrance lingers in my mouth, so I end up not wearing it.
