MAC's Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover is a dual-phase cleanser that combines oil and water to effectively and gently remove even the most stubborn waterproof makeup from your eyes and lips without irritation. When you shake it, you can see the oil and water layers mixing together. It's been ophthalmologist-tested, so it shouldn't cause any tingling sensation in your eyes. To use, first shake the bottle well to blend the two layers. Then, saturate a cotton pad with the product and gently press it onto your eyelids, allowing the formula to break down the makeup. Softly wipe around your eyes to remove the makeup. If you want to eliminate any residual rich feeling, you can follow up with a cleansing foam. The cap requires a bit of pressure to open - just push down slightly and twist. What's great about this remover is that it works hard to dissolve even heavy makeup, so you don't need to rub aggressively. I highly recommend it as it thoroughly cleanses, reaching into the fine lines around your lips and eyes for a truly deep clean. The only downside is that it's on the pricier side. It would be nice if it were a bit more affordable. - 2u********Dry SkinSensitive SkinAtopic SkinSep 10, 2021
My skin is: - Extremely dry with severe atopic dermatitis, requiring medication - Prone to blemishes if I use overly oily products - Only uses serum as a base, no other skincare or makeup (no toner, emulsion, or powder) [This review is based on 4 months of use (Jan-Apr), during which I didn't use any other makeup remover] Though I don't wear face makeup, I use this for eye and lip makeup removal. I use Kiss Me products for eyeliner and mascara, FMGT for eyeshadow, and Benefit for highlighter. Lipsticks vary (Skin Talk, YSL, Lancôme, etc.) First off, it removes makeup incredibly well. Usually, Kiss Me mascara leaves black residue around the eyes, but the MAC remover cleans everything thoroughly. It even removes all traces of lipstick staining. 1) It stings my eyes terribly. I often have to immediately rinse my face in the bathroom after using it. 2) After use, the skin around my eyes and mouth feels noticeably weakened. Sometimes my lips crack or feel sore, and I've even had the corners of my eyes split a few times. I wouldn't recommend this for those with sensitive or delicate skin. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinAcne SkinDec 2, 2019
I'm not sure if there's anything good about it... I don't think I'll ever use it again. Every time I use it, my eyes sting terribly. At first, I thought maybe I was rubbing too hard, but on days when I wear eye makeup, it's extremely painful after use... The discomfort lasts for two or three days, and I even get styes. I usually only wear makeup on weekends, and when I used it on Saturday, the area around my eyes was still sensitive until this morning. MAC is one of my favorite brands, but I absolutely can't use this makeup remover. Am I the only one experiencing this burning sensation? I'm so frustrated, especially considering how expensive it was. - mi******Normal SkinRecommendedMar 27, 2019
It seems to remove makeup better than other products! That's really great! It's not as gentle as I'd hoped - my eyes feel a bit irritated when using it. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedJan 27, 2019
It blends well with oils, making it convenient to use. It effectively removes even glittery eyeshadows, which is handy, and it's less irritating if it gets in your eyes. The matte texture of the lid makes it easy to open, even with slippery hands. To remove mascara, you need to saturate a cotton pad generously, which means you go through the product quickly. The small quantity is quite disappointing. While it removes glittery eyeshadows in one go, mascara requires multiple attempts. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinOct 19, 2018
I have to admit, this stuff removes makeup like a champ! Even heavy eye makeup comes off easily. I just checked the ingredients and they're absolutely terrible. I won't be buying this again... I used it twice without knowing and now I'm worried about developing chronic headaches. Look for products with better ingredients... anything but this one. - 37****Dry SkinRecommendedJul 26, 2018
This eye makeup remover is as good as Chanel's! I can't use just any remover, but this one is great. It's less irritating to the eyes, and it even removes MAC lip tattoos effortlessly in one swipe - something I've struggled to find before. I'll definitely be repurchasing! While I appreciate that the double-seal cap (which you have to press to open) prevents leaks, it's a bit of a hassle to open every time I want to use it. The price listed here is 30,000 won, but it's actually gone up. It's now 33,000 won! - 06*****Combination SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedApr 21, 2018
As a MAC enthusiast, I've noticed that whenever I visit their stores, they always provide this remover for testing other cosmetics. Every time I use it in-store, it removes makeup effectively without irritation. The purple one is typically offered in stores, but this is the oil-based remover recommended by a MAC store associate. My eyeliner is notoriously difficult to remove, and I've tried many products, but this remover outperforms all others I've used. Being extremely sensitive, my skin reacts badly to the slightest misstep in product choice. However, I've never experienced any issues with this remover. For those concerned about the oiliness of oil-based removers, I found it doesn't leave a greasy feeling. Instead, it leaves my skin feeling soft and fresh after removing eye makeup! I purchased it directly from the department store for $30. Given that it's a department store brand, the $30 price tag for a remover might give you pause for thought. However, it's incredibly effective and surprisingly gentle, so I reluctantly invest in it despite the tears it brings to my wallet. Apart from the price, I find it quite satisfactory! (To be honest, I deducted one star because it's quite pricey for a remover, but its cleansing effectiveness and other aspects are truly excellent.) Since it's an oil-based remover, make sure to shake it well before use to mix the ingredients properly. I apply it generously to a cotton pad, hold it over my eyes for a moment, and then wipe - it removes makeup beautifully! - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinFeb 12, 2018
It removes even heavy makeup really well. Everything comes off in one go! It stings quite a bit if it gets in your eyes. That's the only downside. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinJan 10, 2018
If I had to pick a positive, I'd say the case is quite pretty. The double-locking cap ensures it won't leak during travel, which is reassuring. I broke out in hives immediately after using this product. Surprisingly, it only affected the areas around my eyes and eyebrows where I applied it. Thank goodness I didn't use it on my lips! It's been three days, and the reaction hasn't subsided at all. I strongly advise against this for those with super sensitive skin.
