Like other products in the Etude Soon Jung line, I appreciated that the ingredients are gentle on the skin.
ConsAs is typical with cica products, depending on your skin type, you might find it lacks hydration or richness, potentially leaving your skin feeling dry.

It absorbs well and I prefer it because it's fragrance-free.
ConsDespite being called a 'balm', it provides hydration but lacks richness. In the dead of winter, you'll need to layer something else on top.
TipUse it during summer!

Despite having almost no oiliness, it still keeps your skin firm and hydrated even in winter, making your skin barrier feel stronger. I was surprised because even though it's called a balm, it's not oily at all. When you apply it, you'll feel like it's really holding your skin together.
ConsWhile there aren't any real downsides, if I had to pick something, I'd say the texture itself doesn't feel particularly hydrating or rich. It's more like a slightly dry ointment feeling? So it might not be enough on its own during winter months.
TipIt works perfectly if you apply a moisturizing gel cream or hydrating essence before using this product.

That's when I came across this product. Here's my review after using it for about two months, mainly as part of my nighttime routine. Quick summary: Highly recommended for those with dry and sensitive skin who prioritize hydration and soothing effects. Those with oily skin might want to think twice, as it's quite rich and thick. 1. Great value for money. I chose this product among various cica balms because it's affordable. True to its drugstore roots, it offers excellent value and frequently goes on sale. I plan to keep repurchasing it! I wish they'd release a larger size. 2. Gentle ingredients. I didn't experience any blemishes while using it. As I'll explain later, it significantly reduced my red bumps. I recommend this to those with sensitive skin looking for a gentle product. It seems mild enough even for babies. 3. Thick texture The texture is slightly thick, living up to its 'balm' name. It's not solid like a stick lip balm, though - it has enough moisture to spread easily. Think of it as slightly thicker than a cream but more fluid than petroleum jelly. 4. Moisturizing power that withstands cold winds. Due to its thick texture, it applies as a substantial layer on the skin. As a result, its moisturizing power is top-notch. Once, I went out briefly after applying only this, and my skin didn't feel tight or dry at all. The hydration is truly impressive. However, it might be too heavy for summer use; it's more suitable for winter. 5. Quite effective soothing properties The effects weren't immediate, but after a few weeks of consistent use, I noticed a difference. As you can see in the photo, the blemishes on my forehead have significantly calmed down. With regular use, you can really see the soothing effects. The 10% panthensoside content probably contributes to this. Just remember to apply a thin layer - applying too thickly can clog pores and worsen blemishes. 6. Fragrance-free It's completely unscented. Fragrance-free lovers, rejoice! However, being a balm type, it does have some clear drawbacks.
Cons1. Lacks hydration and has a slight oily feel. It focuses more on moisturizing than hydrating - I didn't feel much of a watery sensation. So, rather than using this product alone, it's better to use it in combination with a hydrating cream. To be honest, I'd say it has almost no hydrating effect. I didn't feel my skin becoming more supple. Also, being a balm type, it has a somewhat oily feel. This makes the skin look a bit shiny, so I wouldn't recommend it for those with oily skin. 2. Not suitable for use before makeup When applied before makeup, it caused pilling. Therefore, I think it's more suitable for nighttime care. 3. Hair sticks to it. There's a stickiness after application that can cause hair to stick to your face. Also, it absorbs rather slowly. You need to pat it in several times for it to absorb somewhat quickly. Cica balm products are not common, so I feel like I've discovered a really good product. I'm very, very likely to repurchase!
TipPortion control is essential! Don't apply too much! It's important to apply thin layers multiple times.

Despite its rich texture, I was pleasantly surprised by how well it absorbs. The ingredients are, of course, excellent! It absorbs well and doesn't feel overly rich. I bought it on sale for 9900 won and even received a 20ml sample as a bonus.
ConsThe moisturizing effect is slightly less than expected, so my skin felt dry sooner compared to when I use a cream.
TipInstead of applying a thin layer, try applying it more generously for better hydration. I like to apply it before going to bed.

Skin Type: I have combination skin (oily T-zone, dry cheeks) and tend to get a lot of small bumps on my forehead. Pros: - Excellent for forehead texture - Soothes blemishes - Fragrance-free Texture & Application: Though it's called a cica balm, it's not the sticky balm texture you might expect. It's more of a firm cream that feels velvety, almost like applying a primer rather than a cream. It feels almost oil-free, so if you have dry skin, apply this as the final step in your skincare routine. Forehead Texture: This is what made me fall in love and repurchase. My bumpy forehead was always a source of stress, and I've tried many products for it. But this? I was amazed at how it calmed my skin overnight after just one use. You don't need to apply it too thick - just enough to see the texture, as shown in my photo. Soothing Blemishes: For troubled areas, I apply a thick layer for a few days, and it visibly reduces inflammation. Small pimples disappear in about 2 days, while larger ones shrink in size. I keep applying it consistently even after extraction until the blemish is completely gone.
ConsNot Ideal for Solo Use: I tried using this alone all over my face, thinking it might simplify my routine (toner, serum, cream, cica balm can be a hassle). But when I applied it thinly, it felt like my face was coated, which was an odd sensation that made my skin feel unnatural. While it's not oily, it's not particularly hydrating either, so my skin felt a bit dry. It works fine on its own for oily areas like the forehead and nose though.
TipCica Balm Alone for Blemishes: If your skin isn't too dry, it's best to use the cica balm alone on troubled areas. I've noticed that the oils in our usual serums can slightly slow down the healing process compared to using this product by itself. Nighttime Application: Because of its thick application, even though it absorbs well, it can cause makeup to pill if applied in the morning. I recommend generously applying it at night for peace of mind and letting it work its magic while you sleep.

This one is for soothing and protecting before bed~ It's truly moisturizing and feels rich in both oil and moisture balance. When my skin feels super sensitive, I apply it more generously~
ConsCompared to the Soon Jung Moisture Barrier Cream, this definitely feels richer on the face. It's like a deeper moisturizer? If you dislike feeling greasy, this might be challenging to use.
TipI'm using it well as my night cream~ I apply it as the final step in my skincare routine

After squeezing those pesky little bumps, I applied this, and by the next day, everything was completely calmed down. It's truly excellent for soothing the skin!
ConsI didn't feel like it eliminated or reduced closed comedones at all. After applying, it feels heavy, and as time passes, it starts to feel increasingly rich. For someone with oily skin like me, it felt a bit too much to handle.

It worked well for both of us without causing any blemishes!
ConsSince it's a night cream, applying too much can make it pill and leave a white cast. As someone with dry skin, I find the hydration and richness a bit lacking.
TipI highly recommend this for those with oily skin! For those with dry skin like me, I suggest applying a thin layer before makeup, then layering with a richer cream for better absorption. That seems to work better.
