What is beta-glucan? It's a type of polysaccharide with immune-boosting properties, found in yeast cell walls, mushrooms, and grains. It activates the immune function of normal human cells, suppressing cancer cell growth and recurrence. It also reduces blood sugar and cholesterol levels, improves lipid metabolism, and inhibits body fat formation and accumulation. Beta-glucan has primarily been used in food products. It's added to health supplements and nutritional products to enhance their effects. In the cosmetics industry, various products are created using beta-glucan's moisturizing properties, which can penetrate to the dermis layer. I'm including this explanation since this product is 100% beta-glucan. Previous skincare routine: Dokdo Toner, Dokdo Emulsion (occasionally with Laneige Water Bank Hydro Cream EX) - Used for about 3 years Least compatible skincare product in the past year: Laneige Cream Skin (forced myself to use it for 3 months, resulting in the worst skin condition ever, ended up giving it to my mom...) Skin condition in the past 6 months: Possibly due to mask-wearing during the pandemic, I often experienced non-acne skin blemishes (bumpy skin texture without redness... anyway, my skin often acted up). Texture: Moisturizing and moderately elastic. Since the Dokdo Toner was too watery and left my skin feeling a bit dry, I was really excited when I first applied the Mixsoon Beta-Glucan to my palm and felt its relatively elastic texture. Packaging: The first impression was great with paper tape on the box and paper cushioning for the product. Application method: Day 1: Mixsoon Beta-Glucan Essence > Dokdo Emulsion Day 2: Dokdo Toner > Mixsoon Beta-Glucan Essence > Dokdo Emulsion
ConsI only used it for two days, morning and night... I wanted to stop after just one day, but since this is a Hwahae Testers review, I wanted to try it for at least a week... However, I developed new blemishes unlike my usual ones, to the point where even my mom was surprised, and my face started to feel tingly, so I had to stop using it after just two days...!! On the first day, I immediately developed red, tingly blemishes. I almost stopped using it right away, but on the second day, I tried using the Dokdo Toner first, followed by the Beta-Glucan Essence. Although the blemishes were less severe than on the first day, they were still red and tingly. From the third day onwards, I went back to using only the Dokdo Toner and Dokdo Emulsion as before, and my skin immediately improved...
Tip100% beta-glucan... It seems the ingredient was too strong for me! If you've purchased the Mixsoon Beta-Glucan Essence and experienced blemishes, I recommend either using a light toner first or mixing it with your toner before application.

When applying expensive essences for night care, we usually layer skincare products from thinnest to thickest, right? With less oily products first. I used to feel burdened carrying pricey essences to the gym. After showering, I'd either go bare-faced or apply cream, which meant washing my face again before using the essence at home. But with this beta-glucan essence, my skin didn't feel dry at all on the way home! While many found the bottle inconvenient, I loved how light and compact it was! No worries about glass breaking, and the design lets you tap the product onto your face like sprinkling salt and pepper. This prevents skin or cotton pads from touching the opening - a big plus!
ConsUnfortunately, I noticed some blemishes appearing even though I didn't add any other new products to my routine. It seems this essence might not be the best fit for my skin, which is disappointing.

In the past, it was difficult to pinpoint which ingredient didn't agree with my skin when using cosmetics, but with this product, I could immediately tell if it suited me or not. The bottle is lightweight plastic with a simple, clean design. The texture is similar to water, but feels a bit lighter. The way it applies is quite unique - it's like applying water to your face, but water that contains about 40% oil. As a result, it absorbs well and I didn't feel any unpleasant stickiness when applying it.
ConsUnfortunately, the ingredient didn't agree with my skin. I'm currently using another product from this brand, the Mixsoon Mung Bean Essence, and surprisingly, I found that the Beta Glucan Essence was less hydrating for me. After applying, my face felt tight, and the next day I noticed three hard blemishes on my cheeks. While this product could be excellent for those whose skin agrees with the ingredient, it wasn't suitable for me, so I'm giving it 3 stars.

The ingredient list looks trustworthy and reliable. I really liked the texture. My skin fluctuates between combination-oily and dry, and while many essences are quite oily, this one absorbs well while still providing hydration! It's suitable for use morning, noon, and night without feeling heavy at all. I appreciated that it's nearly fragrance-free! Unlike other brands' products, it feels like they've removed unnecessary ingredients. Recently, I've been dealing with dead skin cells and itchiness due to wearing masks, but after layering this essence a few times, those issues gradually subsided!
ConsWhile it did help with dead skin cells, as someone with combination-dry skin, I noticed a pimple or two popping up when I used this before bed. The skin's surface felt smoother, but I experienced some minor breakouts. Although I mentioned it's nearly fragrance-free, if you smell closely, there's a faint scent that's hard to describe - maybe medicinal or slightly oily. During winter, one application might not provide enough hydration! It would suit those with dry or combination-dehydrated skin at this time of year, but I wouldn't recommend it for very dry or oily skin types.
TipIn the evening, applying this along with a moisturizer and essence left my skin feeling hydrated and wonderful!
