It covers gray hair well. However, I can't recommend it due to the side effects. I usually use Mise-en-Scène bubble hair color, but it doesn't cover my gray hair well, so I tried this. It really does an excellent job covering grays, but the scalp swelling and itching are no joke. It's the second day, and my scalp is burning hot, feverish, and painful. I looked it up and found out it's because of the PPD ingredient in gray hair dyes, which isn't in Mise-en-Scène. I'll have to be more careful about checking ingredients next time. 
77******Oily SkinRecommendedOct 20, 2021Before using, my hair was quite light and the roots weren't colored. I used this to tone down the overall color. After application, it turned out to be a deeper brown than I expected, which initially felt dark. However, when I went outside in the sunlight, it had a subtle, feminine brown hue that looked beautiful. I have long hair, and two bottles were plenty - there's a generous amount of product. The color is a bit darker than I anticipated. I was imagining more of a chocolate brown. It's not really a gel consistency. I applied it with a hair dye brush I had at home, which worked fine, but if you use your hands, it might not spread evenly and could result in patchy coloring. I'm not sure how long-lasting the color is - as time passes, I notice my original hair color coming through more and more.
