I hadn't even considered this color, but it caught my eye when I was thinking about layering the Espoir Greymatte brown, which is pretty but lacks the deep color of editorial looks even when applied lightly. Although I impulsively bought it along with Water Glow 2 Hazelnut Syrup, I wonder why I didn't get it sooner once I applied it. First off, it has my favorite matte, non-shiny texture. As described, it has a thick cream cheese-like formula that spreads smoothly on the lips without clumping, feeling soft and velvety. It applies with good adherence and blends well. It's easy to smudge with a brush or fingertip. Even without a brush, the pointed tip allows for a beautiful application with a light touch. While the official website lists this Anemone shade under reds, there's barely any red tone when swatched. It's a brown color with just a hint of red brick, slightly deeper than Clio's Mad Matte Lip in Sensual Pepper. It's the perfect shade for creating a mood in autumn.
ConsThis lip product should never be applied thickly. The silky matte formula works best with a thin application; otherwise, it can clump. Due to the need for a thin application, you might feel dryness and see emphasized lip lines as time passes. There's a subtle chocolate scent, which I personally like, but it might be divisive as surprisingly many people dislike it. Although it comes in a tint container, this Matte Rouge is more of a thick liquid lipstick than a tint. It transfers less than regular lipsticks, but there is some transfer, so it wears off significantly after eating. Also, as it's not a staining product, you might be disappointed if you're expecting some color to remain.
