The texture is light and spreads thinly, similar to an essence. When applied after a light skincare routine and before makeup, this Dalba Waterful Essence Suncream allows makeup to adhere well and creates a dewy makeup look. As a vegan product that has passed low-irritation tests by the Korean Dermatological Research Institute, it didn't cause any blemishes even after long wear and removal. A notable advantage is that it's not very sticky after application and doesn't cause eye irritation. True to its "Waterful Essence" name, it's hydrating and applies smoothly like an essence, making it highly recommended for those with dry skin.
ConsThe scent might be divisive as it reminds me of older sunscreens - it has that classic "sunscreen smell" or "old cosmetic" scent. For those with oily skin, it might be too greasy to use on its own. While it works well under makeup, it doesn't provide any brightening effect as it's a chemical sunscreen. Some may find the amount lacking, but 50ml is actually the standard size for sunscreens.
TipAs it's a hydrating essence sunscreen, it feels too precious to use on arms and legs. I recommend focusing application on the face!

While they now have tone-up, green, and purple versions, I went for the original. Dalba is always topping the charts at Olive Young and on Hwahae - it's a truly trustworthy product! It's incredibly hydrating and absorbs well. I don't usually wear makeup, but I never skip sunscreen. Dalba's sunscreen keeps my skin moisturized all day long, so I always make sure to apply it!
ConsI wish it were fragrance-free, but it has a slight cosmetic scent.
TipWhen I apply it before makeup, it works like a hydrating makeup base.

It goes on moist but finishes with a slightly powdery feel - quite an interesting texture. I really liked this aspect since I'm not a fan of sticky products! - Being a vegan product with gentle ingredients, there was no eye irritation or skin sensitivity after application, and it left no white cast (see photo for reference). - When used before makeup, it doesn't cause pilling and keeps skin hydrated, giving that coveted Inner Glow effect! 100% would repurchase. I think it'll work well regardless of the season.
Cons- Try as I might, I couldn't find any real downsides while using it... perhaps just the slightly higher price point? (Though even that's not bad if you buy it during a sale...) - It has a slight powdery scent typical of waterproof sunscreens, which might be hit or miss for some. (Personally, I didn't mind it, but if you're sensitive to fragrances, it's best to test it before purchasing.)
TipGiven its price point at full retail, I recommend waiting for a discount or a buy-one-get-one-free promotion to try it out.

I was worried about using organic sunscreen since I don't usually use it, but I absolutely loved it! Here's what I liked: 1. Despite being an organic sunscreen, it doesn't leave a greasy feeling and provides enough hydration, making it suitable even for oily skin! 2. It doesn't cause pilling and helps makeup adhere better! My makeup lasts longer now. I think it worked well for me because I have dry combination skin. 3. The absorbs beautifully! At first, it comes out thick, but with a gentle rub, it spreads smoothly. It absorbs well whether applied with fingers, sponge, or puff. In conclusion, I'm extremely satisfied and highly recommend it!
ConsThe downsides are... 1. The price is too high, so I probably wouldn't buy it with my own money... 2. The luxurious packaging and citrus scent... well, the citrus fragrance isn't really my style..
TipApplying it with a latex puff helped cover pores so well that I didn't need a separate pore primer

Here are my two favorite things about this sunscreen: 1. Hydration I've only used mineral sunscreens before, but this one is noticeably more moisturizing. My skin doesn't feel tight at all! It's perfect for dry, transitional seasons like we're in now. At first, I thought it was just moisturizing without being oily. But over time, it does get a bit richer. If you have combination to oily skin and want to go foundation-free, you'll definitely need to set it with powder. It's fine with powder, but I'm a bit concerned about how the richness might feel in summer. 2. Application I was surprised by how easily it applies - it's somewhere between a sun essence and a cream! It spreads effortlessly and feels like it really adheres to the skin, making it super convenient. This is my go-to sunscreen when I'm in a rush and need something that applies smoothly and quickly.
ConsIt has a slight citrusy scent, almost like lemon. I personally don't prefer fragranced skincare products, so that was a bit disappointing for me. The texture is great, but the scent on my face is distracting. This is why I'm giving it 4/5 stars - everything else about it is satisfactory!
TipWhen applying makeup, I use a Daiso puff to apply the sunscreen. It helps distribute it evenly without any clumping or pilling, which is great.

Initial feel is moisturizing and spreads well. No white cast Absorption: As it's rolled onto the skin, it goes from feeling moisturizing to slightly tacky, then absorbs quickly Residual feel: Almost no stickiness Makeup compatibility: Works quite well with makeup. Has a fresh finish and feels like a primer that firms and tightens the skin overall Eye irritation: I didn't experience any This sunscreen seems ideal for late spring to early fall. Despite the 'Waterful Essence' description, which made me expect a moisturizing and slightly nourishing texture, the finish after absorption actually feels somewhat matte. There's almost zero residue. The initial application is moisturizing, doesn't slide around, and adheres well to the skin, making foundation apply smoothly. There's no white cast or brightening effect (which I love). I'd recommend this to those with thin, sensitive skin who find mineral sunscreens too drying or uncomfortable. I've included a photo comparing it to sunscreens I usually use for reference.
ConsIngredients: Disappointing to see potential citrus allergens. Scent: Has Dalba's signature citrus scent, like orange and lemon with a hint of sesame or olive oil. Some might find it similar to mosquito repellent, so it could be polarizing. Personally, I love citrus scents, but this had a slight medicinal edge reminiscent of antiseptic or canker sore treatment, which gave me a mild headache. Price: On the expensive side. It might be worth it if it perfectly suits your skin and seasonal needs, but if you just find it 'okay', you might want to wait for a buy-one-get-one-free sale. If it weren't for the scent and price, I'd likely continue using this product regularly.
TipThe non-sticky formula allows for easy reapplication on cheekbones and nose bridge before makeup, and it still works well with cosmetics.

Before I dive into my review, I'd like to mention that I have dry and sensitive skin. I hope this review will be especially helpful for those with similar skin types! I tried the d'Alba sunscreen for the first time, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. Here's why: - Absorption: It glides on incredibly smoothly, making application a breeze. - Texture: While it's slightly rich, it spreads easily and doesn't feel heavy at all. - Adherence: Once applied, it makes your skin look beautiful and adheres well. I think it would make an excellent base for makeup, helping it last longer! - Hydration: After applying it all over, my skin felt light and fresh. It's so hydrating that you might wonder if it's oily, but rather than feeling sticky and heavy like oil, it gives more of a deeply moisturized, dewy glow effect! These factors made me really satisfied with this product. And of course, I didn't experience any blemishes while using it.
Cons- Scent: It has a somewhat typical cosmetic scent, reminiscent of 'mom's toner'. I don't mind it, but those sensitive to fragrances might find it disappointing. - Amount: The quantity is quite small. Considering the price isn't particularly budget-friendly for the amount you get, it might be a bit expensive for students. - Oily Skin: Because it's so hydrating, those with oily skin might find it heavy. It could potentially break down over long periods of wear, so I think it's better suited for dry or combination dehydrated skin types rather than oily skin.
TipBefore applying sunscreen, keep your skincare routine light - just toner, ampoule, and essence should suffice. Let these products absorb fully, then apply an appropriate amount of sunscreen, spreading it evenly. This should give you a beautiful complexion! If you apply heavier products like creams or emulsions before the sunscreen in your skincare routine, it might cause pilling.

It has hydration but doesn't give an overly intense glow, so it's not overwhelming ✅ Application It spreads smoothly like a cream, making it easy to apply without irritation or pilling. It's great to use before makeup ✅ Sensitivity While I don't have super sensitive skin, I didn't experience any itching or eye irritation after application
Cons✅ Scent It has that typical sunscreen scent? I'm somewhat sensitive to fragrances, and this cosmetic-like scent was a bit off-putting for me However, it's not overpowering, so it's tolerable ✅ Hydration and Oil This might be a plus for some, but it feels less hydrating and rich compared to other essence sunscreens. As someone with dry skin, I think it would be better suited for spring and summer use
TipA sunscreen that's great to use before applying makeup For dry skin types, it should work well during seasonal transitions

It absorbs into the skin instantly, so I didn't even feel like I was putting on sunscreen. The texture is more watery than oily, though a slight oiliness does appear after some time. The best features are absolutely no white cast and it doesn't dry out the skin. I was a bit worried since I had absorption issues and blemishes with Dalba's tone-up sunscreen before, but this essence sunscreen didn't cause any blemishes and absorbed well! I'd recommend it to beginners who struggle with amount control - even if you apply a lot, it doesn't pill or feel heavy. It also works well under makeup. I'm definitely considering repurchasing.
ConsI was disappointed that it had a fragrance - they must have added perfume. While I liked the skincare-like texture, the scent was exactly like a cheap sunscreen, which was a letdown. --- Update after further use --- Those with sensitive skin, please be careful... Wow, my skin completely broke out after using this. I don't think Dalba sunscreens agree with me. The tone-up sunscreen also caused my skin to react, and now this one too. I'm retracting my statement about repurchasing. When I gave it to my mom, she didn't get any blemishes, but she said it didn't absorb well for her.
