The instructions say to leave it on for 3 minutes, but I found it works well to apply it generously to the dyed areas and rinse carefully. Whatever you do, don't use this with bare hands! Not only is the smell intense, but your hands might turn purple! With a pair of nitrile gloves, you should be able to maintain your desired hair color for a long time!
