The texture is like Nivea hand cream - it scoops up nicely with your fingers. It melts into the skin easily when applied to the face, and it's not oily or burdensome. The product description mentioned that it creates a protective layer on the skin, and I really felt that way when using the product. ;) As for lasting hydration, this is more of a final step cream that goes on top of other lightweight essences, rather than deeply replenishing moisture.
