I always use pudding or Hello Bubble when dyeing my hair at home. The roots had grown out significantly, as it had been a few months since I last dyed my hair. I mixed Ash Beige and Matte Brown and applied them. The roots and the dyed ends seem to blend together quite naturally. I applied the dye, wrapped it in plastic, and let it sit for 40 minutes.
Cons
I used about one and a half tubes for hair that's about chest-length. When applying the foam, it tends to clump up, so you need to spread it out evenly to make sure it reaches all the way through.
Tip
You can brush through the hair with your hands to ensure the dye reaches all the way to the ends.
