My roots had grown out quite a bit, as it had been a few months since my last coloring. I decided to mix Ash Beige and Matte Brown. The result? A pretty seamless blend between my roots and the previously dyed hair. After applying the mixture, I wrapped my hair in plastic and let it process for 40 minutes. For my chest-length hair, I needed to use about 1.5 boxes. As you apply the foam, it tends to clump together, so you really need to spread it carefully to ensure it penetrates all the way through. This product is so famous that it almost feels redundant to recommend it! But here we go: Quantity needed: When I had shoulder-length hair, one box was plenty! However, for DIY coloring, the amount you'll need really varies depending on your hair thickness and length. I'd suggest buying extra just to be safe! Irritation: It's gentle on the scalp. Of course, you'll have to deal with that typical hair dye smell - it's unavoidable! I highly recommend opening windows or doors for ventilation while coloring. Color results: The color turns out beautifully! Even without any special techniques, just massaging it in thoroughly results in a clean, even color. That's why I keep coming back to this product. Oh, and while the final shade might differ slightly from the package depending on your natural hair color, if you're starting with virgin hair, it should come out quite close to what's shown. One of the charms of hair coloring is that it looks subtly different on everyone, which I love! I'm very satisfied - it didn't irritate my eyes, and the color came out great! There's nothing negative to say! I'm using it happily. It's so reliable that I can't think of any downsides.
