While it appears quite deep when swatched heavily on the back of the hand, it settles into a slightly more subdued tone when applied lightly to the lips. This isn't just for fall and winter - it's a beautifully muted yet atmospheric red-brown that's perfect for spring and summer. If you find deep red-browns overwhelming, I highly recommend this 'Gothic Jujube' shade. Despite being a velvet finish, it's a moisturizing velvet that doesn't feel dry at all. As time passes, it develops a subtle glow, which means less transfer when drinking. While it doesn't stain intensely, I personally prefer lipsticks that allow for clean touch-ups, so this is actually a plus for me. The moisturizing formula also ensures smooth application - whether you use your fingers or a tool, it glides on effortlessly. I also appreciated how true-to-color it appears on the lips. As for the scent, while the previous Over Velvet line had a caramel popcorn fragrance, this Gallery line has notes of vanilla and sweet fruit. The scent seems more subtle overall - I could barely detect the vanilla. If you're not a fan of strong fragrances, this is definitely a point in its favor.
ConsPersonally, I find it works well both on its own and layered, so I don't have any particular complaints.
