I've hardly ever used sun sticks, but this is the first time I've used one in a long time. I had thought that sun sticks would be oily and have a lot of sebum, but that was not the case at all. I'm someone who applies sunscreen about 3 times a day. Please refer to my experience using it in the fall. I checked the ingredients and they don't seem bad. Since I'm more on the oily side, I usually avoid products with a lot of sebum, but this one doesn't have that at all. It contains centella extract and tannins, so I think it actually suits me better as someone with enlarged pores and oily skin. The emerald blue color is made with gardenia extract instead of artificial coloring. It's a matte type sun cream that applies smoothly. At first it feels a bit stiff, but after a few applications it becomes nicely rounded. It's a bit tricky to apply on the nose and hairline, but you can just gently pat it in with your fingers. After application, there's no oiliness or stickiness at all, just a soft, powdery finish. There's hardly any tackiness, and it's easy to apply on the neck as well. The size is really minimal and compact, perfect for carrying around. It's a twist-up type, and the amount left when fully extended is shown in the photo. The color is a bluish emerald shade. I have combination skin with some acne, and products often cause me to break out, but this one didn't cause any trouble at all, neither for me nor my sister who also used it. It applies smoothly and has a soft, powdery finish even after application. There's no tone-up effect, it just leaves a natural bare-faced look. Around the afternoon, a bit of oil starts to come through, but reapplying makes it matte again. It also has a blotting paper effect. There was no eye irritation either. It's said to have sebum control benefits, and both my sister and I did feel like we had less oiliness and shine. When the applied area gets wet, the water beads up instead of being absorbed, so it seems water and sweat-resistant. I think this would be perfect for using in the summer.
ConsAs for downsides, there weren't really any major ones, but if I had to nitpick: It felt slightly drying, and I did experience a bit of tightness. However, since it's currently fall and the weather is quite dry, I think that's likely the reason. When I washed it off with a mildly acidic cleanser, there was a slight residue feeling, more so than with the Bifesta Moisture sunscreen. And when I layered it over the Bifesta sunscreen, it felt like it was pilling up a tiny bit. But when I layered it over the Tory Burch sunscreen, it was fine.
TipIt seems like this product would be great for water activities. I disliked that the mineral sunscreens I used before didn't wash off well with the mildly acidic cleansers I use, but with this organic sunscreen, I felt like the UV protection wasn't as effective for water activities. However, since this product is resistant to sweat and water, I'm planning to bring it with me when I travel.
