I prefer the classic shade 22 with a yellow base, and I usually go for comfortable, hydrating bases that prioritize preventing breakdown over coverage. However, this Black Cushion really stands out with its robust semi-matte to glow formula that sets immediately and maintains its appearance with minimal deterioration throughout the day. While it's marketed as semi-matte, I find it's closer to matte than glow, but there's definitely a hint of radiance. It's not completely matte or drying - I typically favor very dewy, moisturizing bases, but I don't feel any dryness with this one. The formula pumps up when pressed, and the color is a beautifully elegant ivory shade. It's one of the prettiest yellow-based 21 shades I've seen, which makes it excellent for covering redness. The coverage is impressive without feeling thick, somehow creating a smooth, egg-shell-like finish. It sets quickly on the skin, contributing to its excellent staying power. Only a slight oil film develops, with minimal breakdown. For me, it's perfect for days when I need more lasting power and a polished skin look, feeling more like a foundation than a typical cushion.
ConsThe application process can be a bit tricky and cumbersome. Simply dabbing the pumped-up formula with the puff doesn't seem to apply it evenly, and using a spatula to scoop out the product is challenging. I always end up using a spatula brush (like the one from WAKEMAKE) for application. While the formula works well with the included puff and it's hygienic, it feels more complicated to use compared to regular sponge cushions. Also, I suspect it might become drying as the weather gets colder. It feels like the perfect summer base for my dry skin type.
