The application is incredibly smooth (you'll be amazed as you apply it). It offers high coverage (comparable to Double Wear) while feeling incredibly lightweight. You can easily achieve a full face of makeup without concealer. For areas needing extra coverage, a second layer works perfectly (though the eye area might feel a bit dry). It initially pumps out as a bouncy texture, feels silky during application, and dries quickly, so swift application is recommended. The color changes as it dries (becoming noticeably darker), so I highly suggest testing the shades before purchasing. (Laura Mercier's range seems to have a slight pink undertone mixed in, while the yellow-based shades lean a bit orange.) Personally, Double Wear Bone matched my skin best (light yellow tone with ivory), but I bought this in a medium yellow tone as it was the only option. It's a bit dark and develops a slight pink-orange tint as it dries. As for wear, it breaks down nicely when mixed with natural oils. The initial 'second-skin' effect fades, and you'll notice some oil coming through, but a gentle touch-up restores a natural finish. True to its 'Lingerie' name, it feels incredibly lightweight on the skin (much, much lighter than Double Wear). Most importantly, the ingredients are fantastic. It doesn't cause any blemishes on my face, which is amazing. The formulation is top-notch! As mentioned above, the shade range is disappointing. The longevity isn't as impressive as expected (even with Laura Mercier primer). Being a matte formula with fine particles, it tends to emphasize pores during application and can settle into them over time. To avoid it settling into pores, I apply it with a thin, flat-tipped brush using quick strokes. This method makes application incredibly easy and time-efficient. * Personal opinion: Choosing the right shade was my biggest concern when switching to Laura Mercier. I've tried the gold-cap version too. It's about half a shade darker than the black-cap and has an even lighter texture. However, overall, I prefer the yellow-cap version, except for the shade issue. Finding the right shade is really challenging! Despite this, if you have acne-prone, sensitive skin and are looking for a summer-appropriate matte foundation with high coverage and good ingredients, I'd recommend giving this a try. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinRecommendedJan 8, 2019
My skin type is combination dehydrated, but it tends to get a bit oily. That's why I prefer products with a matte finish, even in winter, and sometimes I use powder (Innisfree product) as well. To be honest, I don't wear makeup often these days, so I don't use foundation frequently. However, every time I use this one, I'm satisfied, so when I need to put on makeup, I find myself reaching for it often. In case it's helpful, I'll share my skincare routine (though it's quite simple) for winter. I prefer to keep my skincare minimal as too many products can feel heavy. Skinfood Royal Honey Good Toner -> Etude UV Double Cut Fresh Sun Gel (mineral sunscreen) On days when I feel extra dry, I add a bit of: Cynic The Simple Daily Emulsion By this point, my skin feels hydrated, and the Etude sunscreen provides some moisture as it's mineral-based. Overall impression: The foundation sets quickly and has a matte finish. The coverage is good for my needs. I have acne scars on the outer parts of my cheeks, and I love that this foundation doesn't cake up when I layer it there. Most importantly, it feels incredibly lightweight. The Armani Power Fabric foundation I used before had excellent coverage but didn't feel as light. Even with my hydrating base and winter dryness, my skin doesn't feel tight with this foundation. Color: Honestly, I'm still not sure which shade matches me best, but 21 is a bit light for me. Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation in 2.5 (Warm Sand) is closest to my complexion, and Armani Power Fabric in 3 is also a good match. The Macadamia shade in this foundation might appear quite yellow to some, but I prefer yellow undertones. When applied, it doesn't look excessively yellow. If you like a natural yellow-based 23 shade, definitely get a color test! Longevity: The staying power is really impressive. Even though I have combination dehydrated skin that leans oily, I prefer a matte finish right after application. I don't touch up during the day. In my experience, when it starts to break down (though others might find it doesn't break down much), it mixes with my skin's natural oils to create a natural-looking glow. For oily skin types, just blotting excess oil with oil paper or tissues should be enough. I found it transferred less than the Armani Power Fabric on me. 1. The amount of foundation dispensed per pump is definitely on the smaller side. However, since this foundation sets quickly, the smaller amount isn't necessarily a bad thing. 2. The packaging tends to get dirty easily. I always clean the opening after use, but it seems hard to keep clean. 3. It might be too drying for those with dry skin, especially in winter. If you have dry skin, opt for a more hydrating foundation! Those with oily skin should ensure they have a solid moisturizing base before using this in winter. As a previous reviewer mentioned, even if you have oily skin, you might find it challenging to use this alone in winter. 4. This is more of a Laura Mercier brand issue rather than specific to this foundation, but it's less accessible compared to other brands. As far as I know, there are only a few department stores in Seoul that carry Laura Mercier. This foundation was probably designed for summer use, but I only got to try it in winter. Since I used Armani Power Fabric well in summer, I think this one will work fine too. In my opinion, this feels better than Armani (though I'll need to check how it holds up against sweat). I also appreciate that the ingredients are quite good for a foundation. When applying this foundation, I use the white pentagon-shaped sponge from Olive Young, and they seem to work well together. - kt****Combination SkinAcne SkinRecommendedNov 6, 2018
I have combination skin with an oily T-zone. Applying this with a water droplet puff and setting it with powder makes it invincible against summer sweat and oil. I remember being amazed at how it stayed put all day even during this year's humid summer, despite me being out and about. The coverage is medium to high. The shade (based on swatching on the back of my hand) is slightly lighter than Estée Lauder Double Wear in Sand. Even those with oily skin might find it difficult to use this alone in winter due to dryness.
