Entering my 40s in Korean age... Time to get serious about anti-aging! I've been experimenting with retinol and vitamin C products one by one. I've heard good things about SkinCeuticals, but their prices are a bit cheeky, so I opted for the more affordable retinol powerhouse, ROC. Knowing ROC is owned by Johnson & Johnson (who got FDA approval for retinoic acid in aging treatment) gives me confidence in its reliability. The capsule form seemed more stable, and unlike pump bottles that can lead to overuse, these allow for precise application. True to its 'Line Smoothing' name, it seems targeted more towards aging skin rather than younger 20s-30s complexions. With ceramides and a rich finish, it's particularly great for dry skin retinol users. There was some initial skin peeling, but that's typical with retinol, and it's stabilized now. (I've been alternating with CeraVe's retinol serum, so I'm not sure which was the culprit). Anyway, it's less irritating compared to other retinol products. I don't have many deep wrinkles visible yet, so I can't speak to any dramatic or immediate effects, but since using retinol, my skin texture consistently has that 'peeled egg' glow. The forehead glow is especially insane! I plan to keep using it consistently for wrinkle prevention. The finish is quite rich. Might not be ideal for oily skin types or those who dislike a dewy finish. Grab it during Amazon's sale periods for the best deal! - hs*****Normal SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedSep 28, 2022
I became interested in this product when it went on sale, and surprisingly, the ingredients are quite gentle. I've been using it every other night before bed. Before using it, my skin was extremely dehydrated, but this has improved that issue. I also feel like my skin texture has become smoother. Since it's an oil-based formula, it does feel a bit slippery. It absorbs rather quickly, though I'm not sure if that's really a downside. - an***************Combination SkinAcne SkinRecommendedAug 26, 2022
I've been using this for over six months since I first tried it, and I love how it absorbs. My skin feels so soft in the morning. As someone with acne-prone skin, I've noticed a significant reduction in blemishes since using this. I always make sure to keep it stocked. Using it daily can cause some skin irritation, but I find it works well when used every 2-3 days. If you have sensitive skin, I'd recommend doing a patch test first. - bz******Combination SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedMay 11, 2022
While I'm naturally blessed with good skin, this product has worked wonders. My fine lines have become less noticeable (it's more effective on subtle wrinkles than deep ones). But what's truly impressive is how it's transformed my skin texture - it's incredibly soft and smooth now. My cheekbones are glowing like they did in my 20s! Though I don't have many blemishes, the few I had have faded. Overall, my complexion looks brighter and more radiant. I've tried countless expensive brands like La**er, Sio**ge, and SK-II, not to mention various dermatological treatments like Fraxel, Pico laser toning, and Ultherapy over the years. But for quick results and value for money, this product takes the crown. I'm thoroughly impressed! While I don't have many wrinkles, my dermatologist explained that forehead and frown lines are expression lines formed by forehead muscles. The only way to prevent these is either by managing facial expressions from birth or getting regular Botox injections. So, for someone like me who's been expressive since my teens - raising eyebrows, squinting, the works - 30 capsules might not be enough to see dramatic results on deep-set wrinkles. However, it's definitely effective on fine lines that are just starting to form or are relatively new. For deeper wrinkles, I'm not sure how many bottles it would take to see significant improvement. I'm tempted to try for a spot in Amazon's Top 10 before-and-after photo reviews! I purchased this primarily to improve my forehead wrinkles and have been using it every other night. Keep in mind that individual reactions may vary - ingredients like retinol or vitamin C can be irritating, so adjust usage based on your skin's tolerance. After evening cleansing and applying a hydrating hyaluronic acid toner, I twist open a capsule. There's enough product to cover my face and neck, with a bit left over for a second layer on wrinkle-prone areas. For truly dramatic results in a short time, I've found combining this with my dermatologist-prescribed Tre**noin works even better than any in-office laser treatment, and it's much more cost-effective too! - je*******Dehydrated SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsSebum/BlackheadsInner DrynessWrinkles/ElasticityEnlarged PoresRednessRecommendedFeb 6, 2022
While searching for retinol products, I found this on iHerb and thought it might be similar to Elizabeth Arden's. I decided to give it a try, and it's actually quite comparable! Although the retinol concentration isn't specified, I suspect it contains a moderate amount. The package includes 30 capsules, perfect for a month's supply. The capsule format ensures hygiene, and the texture is like an oily serum. I apply it in the evening during my cream step, sometimes mixing it with my regular moisturizer. After nearly finishing the entire container, I can feel my skin becoming slightly firmer! With only a 30-day supply and a price in the $30 range, it's a bit on the expensive side. Even with discounts, it still feels somewhat overpriced. I'll probably only repurchase when I have some extra cash to spare. Even with a lower retinol concentration, this product can potentially cause blemishes or dryness. While my skin is accustomed to retinol, first-time users should introduce it gradually. Apply it only at night, either on its own or mixed with your serum or moisturizer, and be sure to space out usage initially. - Hwahae UserOily SkinAtopic SkinRecommendedJan 22, 2022
The capsule format makes storage easy and using one at a time is convenient. I didn't notice while using it daily, but when I stopped, my skin felt noticeably plumper. The amount in each capsule seems a bit excessive. After applying it generously all over my face, there's still some left, which feels wasteful. I end up using the excess on my neck and body. - Hwahae UserDry SkinRecommendedDec 10, 2021
After using other brands' retinol, my skin looked incredibly moisturized and glowy on the outside, but I experienced severe deep dryness all day long (like that tight feeling after washing with soap). Amazingly, since using this and waking up the next morning, that deep dryness is gone. I'm not sure about wrinkle improvement, to be honest, but for those with dry skin, applying this before bed leaves your face feeling wonderfully hydrated. It's a product I want to repurchase not for the retinol, but for its moisturizing properties. There's not really any downside I can think of... though those with oily skin might experience blemishes. Since hydration is important with retinol capsules, after cleansing I used a booster, toner, emulsion, serum, then the ROC capsule. When I felt dry, I applied a very thin layer of moisturizer only on dry areas. Despite having skin that never breaks out, I did get one blemish on my cheek, but it disappeared the next day. After my evening cleanse and skincare routine, I apply this right before bed. Although they say fluorescent light doesn't matter, it still concerns me. To be honest, I don't see much effect, but I bought it for wrinkle improvement. Since I'm not making expressions like smiling or frowning while sleeping, it works well for that purpose. - di****Oily SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedOct 21, 2021
This is my first time trying retinol. The package contains 30 capsules, perfect for a month of nightly use. While it's recommended to use retinol every other day when starting out to monitor skin reactions, I've never had adverse reactions to skincare products, so I applied it daily. After cleansing in the evening, I used the retinol alone. By morning, my skin felt incredibly soft. After a week, though I couldn't see a visible difference, my skin felt slightly thicker to the touch. I believe this is a sign of improved skin elasticity. While my forehead lines remained unchanged, the crow's feet around my eyes have noticeably faded. With only 3 capsules left, I've already reordered. The price point is reasonable, and knowing it's from a company specializing in retinol products for years gives me confidence. Given the visible reduction in fine lines, I plan to continue using this product long-term. As someone with oily skin, I can use this product alone, but during winter, using just the capsule might lead to skin tightness. Years ago, this brand officially launched in Korea with TV commercials, but like Olay, it seems to have quietly withdrawn from the market. Now it's only available through international purchasing. If your skin is already accustomed to retinol, try using two capsules once a week. Apply generously and massage thoroughly. You'll likely notice that any mask marks disappear faster than usual the next day. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedMay 16, 2021
Although it's oil-based, it's not very sticky and doesn't irritate my sensitive skin at all. Since I layer multiple products, it's hard to pinpoint which one is responsible for the improvements. However, the next day my skin feels less dry and brighter, and fine lines seem to have slightly diminished. Being oil-based, I wouldn't recommend applying it to the eyelids as it might get into your eyes.
