I used to find it inconvenient with the traditional pencil-type hard formula brow products, as I had to keep getting them sharpened. But this new product is automatic, so you just need to replace the refill, which seems much more convenient. I bought the shade 'Acorn' since I have light brown dyed hair, and it's a versatile color that works well. Plus, the automatic type has a spoolie brush on the other end, making it great for on-the-go use. Although they say the lead is the same, I felt the pencil type drew better. The pencil also had a better grip when applying compared to the automatic type. With the pencil, you could use it until it became a stub, but with the automatic one, you can only use the visible part at the top. It runs out faster, which is disappointing from a cost perspective. I once went through a Shu Uemura phase and bought several, but their durability wasn't great. They often made rattling noises or came apart, and the refill insertion part would easily break, which was frustrating. - dh******Dry SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinAtopic SkinBrightening/Dark SpotsDark CirclesInner DrynessWrinkles/ElasticityEnlarged PoresRecommendedOct 31, 2023
I've been using YOI for my eyebrows for 8 years now. While it might seem pricey for an eyebrow product, it lasts so incredibly long that it actually feels cheaper than other brow products in the long run. It's soft and easy to apply. You can achieve both natural-looking brows and bold, defined ones with this product. To be honest, creating hair-like strokes is nearly impossible with this. The inconvenience of having to sharpen it is a downside. It's heartbreaking to see product inevitably go to waste as you sharpen it. - Hwahae UserDry SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinRecommendedMar 11, 2021
Easy to apply Excellent staying power The acorn shade seems to be the most versatile! The price is a bit steep... It's pretty standard, not much different from regular eyebrow products - Hwahae UserCombination SkinRecommendedJun 17, 2020
I've been using this product for so long - from my college days to my current working life - that I can't even remember when I first started! The automatic pencil is so convenient, and the thickness and color payoff are just right, making it easy to quickly sketch out my brows. The only downside I can think of is that it's a bit on the pricey side... but that's about it! - Hwahae UserNormal SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinRecommendedJun 2, 2020
It was easy to apply because it goes on lightly. The screw brush is incredibly soft. There wasn't really anything to complain about. It's just a bit on the pricey side. - Hwahae UserOily SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinRecommendedApr 15, 2020
It has just the right amount of richness for smooth application and long-lasting wear. I'm already on my third one! There's honestly nothing bad to say. I'm struggling to come up with 20 characters... - Hwahae UserOily SkinAcne SkinRecommendedApr 9, 2020
Being automatic makes it convenient to use. As many of you know, Shu Uemura eyebrow pencils are great. What I love most is its long-lasting formula, natural-looking color, and how smoothly it applies. It's fantastic! The price, of course! There are many affordable options out there these days that perform well. However, it's still Shu Uemura's Auto Hard Formula, so it's worth it. - fj**********Dry SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedApr 8, 2020
I avoided buying the pencil-type hard formula because sharpening seemed like a hassle, but I've been using the auto-type for years since its release. It's cost-effective since you only need to buy refills, especially considering the amount wasted when sharpening. It's simply a classic for a reason. The formula is firm, applies with a soft color payoff, and builds up gradually, allowing even beginners to control the intensity. You can draw thin lines easily without needing to sharpen it to a fine point. The staying power is great as long as you don't rub it. I've tried other products out of boredom, but I always come back to this one. The only downside is that it's a Japanese product... When I want to create more precise lines, I pair it with Benefit's Precisely. Shade 3 is similar to the taupe color. - Hwahae UserCombination SkinSensitive SkinAcne SkinRecommendedApr 6, 2020
There's something stylish about its design. It's quite popular. However, I'm not confident in sharpening regular hard formula brow pencils. That's why I, being easily swayed, decided to buy this. Pigmentation: Perfect for a natural look! The subtle color allows for effortless application without being overwhelming. Longevity: While my brows tend to stay put, even after being out for a long time, I didn't feel like my brows had significantly faded! It gives you that 'still there' feeling. Application: Glides on smoothly. However, it applies best over makeup or on skin with some oil. Design: The auto-twist mechanism is a major plus! It's actually the main reason I bought it. I'm also a fan of spoolie brushes, and having one attached is great. I like to brush through my brows first, which gives a more polished look! If you've applied too much, you can use the brush to blend it out for a more even finish. Blemishes: I have sensitive, acne-prone skin, but this brow product hasn't caused any breakouts. Recommended for: Those who find sharpening regular hard formula pencils difficult or bothersome! This auto pencil is super smooth and convenient. Price: It's a bit expensive for the amount you get. The price might be a burden for students..! Portability: When I pack my basic makeup pouch for light travel, eyebrow products are a must. However, this is slightly large and heavy for my light pouch. It's not extremely heavy, but compared to drugstore products I've used before, it is noticeable. Not recommended for: Those who don't wear much makeup! This type applies best over makeup, so it doesn't go on well on bare skin. (Of course, you could apply it more firmly, but there's no need to irritate your skin like that, right?) I don't wear much makeup these days, so I'm very satisfied with just neatly applying this to my eyebrows for a light makeup look. I usually brush along the grain with the spoolie brush, then fill in with the brow pencil, and finish by tidying up with the spoolie again. It creates a very clean look! Be careful when choosing your shade! The auto hard formula comes in various colors, so I recommend picking one that suits you best! - sr******Combination SkinSensitive SkinRecommendedMar 21, 2020
As someone who was drawing eyebrows for the first time, this product was excellent for me. It's easy to apply, has great color payoff, and impressive staying power. Unlike drugstore options, it matched my hair color perfectly and created a natural-looking brow. I've been loyal to this product for years. First off, it's quite pricey, and it feels like you go through it quickly. I think this might be because the tip isn't super sharp and covers a larger area. Also, being a Japanese product made me switch to alternatives. If not for these issues, I probably would have stuck with it.
