The skin finish is absolutely stunning...! If you love that dewy, luminous glow, you're going to be thrilled with this. My complexion looks genuinely so beautiful. This isn't just an oily shine—it's a truly gorgeous, radiant wet look! I've been a foundation nomad, trying everything from Vanilla Co to Giverny to Espoir, and this is hands down the most beautiful. My skin is combination overall with a drier T-zone, but I feel like I've finally found my forever foundation...! The coverage isn't perfect, I'll be honest, but it's totally workable, and layering it builds nicely. I don't have any particular skin concerns and just have a few visible pores, but this foundation makes them look as smooth as a peeled egg...! There's nothing bad. Honestly, this is my ride-or-die foundation. For those with troubled or acne-prone skin, the coverage might feel a bit lacking, so I'd probably recommend looking elsewhere. But then again, with dewy makeup, you kind of have to accept that coverage takes a backseat. The shade 1 Pure is calibrated to shade 21, so for me at shade 17, it runs a bit dark and doesn't look bright enough. When I mix it with the VDL tone-up correcting primer Serenity, it's absolutely perfect. Before I really understood how important a solid foundation routine was, I'd just skip the prep and go straight to foundation and cushion. Back then, this product didn't budge on me at all, so I ended up using it year-round. It's so forgiving that even without a proper base, there's barely any texture showing through. It feels incredibly hydrating, and layering it actually looks amazing. The formula is so lightweight and sheer that it gives this beautiful brightening effect. For anyone with dry skin, this is going to be a lifesaver during winter because it stays put beautifully and gives you this gorgeous glow. Even when I add powder on top, it doesn't look cakey at all! The hydrating formula means the coverage is pretty minimal. That said, for dry skin types, this could actually be a really solid choice. The adhesion is excellent and it doesn't transfer or smudge throughout the day. It works beautifully for both warm and cool undertones. I discovered this product last summer and when I first tried it, I was so impressed that I couldn't stop telling everyone about finding my holy grail foundation. What I love - From the moment I applied it, the formula felt so hydrated and moisturizing that even with my clumsy application skills, I could blend it incredibly easily. Despite that, it creates this porcelain-like skin finish and the wear time is absolutely incredible. I constantly get asked where I go for skincare or what makeup products I use because my skin looks so good! What disappointed me - This could be a very personal issue with my skin or there could be other factors, but since I wasn't changing anything else in my routine, I think this product was the culprit. Anyway, I used this intensely for about six months and I started noticing my skin getting progressively oilier. Since I love that dewy glow, I actually thought it was great and used it even more enthusiastically. Eventually, I got these tiny bumps all over my face and I thought they were nothing serious, so I picked at them. Turns out they were folliculitis. You know how it works, right? The excess oil feeds the bacteria that causes it, and when you pick at it, it spreads everywhere. I had never experienced folliculitis before, and it spread across my entire face. I've been going to the dermatologist constantly, took medications, but then experienced rebound effects from the medication side effects. I had to stop the medication and ointment and go to a specialist dermatologist for folliculitis treatment, and it ended up costing me as much as a cosmetic surgery procedure. The product performance is honestly amazing, so I think even people with thin, sensitive skin like me could use it. However, I'd recommend not using it every single day. Save it for really important occasions, and make sure to give your skin breaks in between. It's kind of like a BB cream mixed with a hydrating moisturizer rather than a full foundation? My combination skin with oily zones stays perfectly balanced with this product—no dryness, no breakouts, and it applies beautifully. The only downside is the wear time only lasts about 3 hours. Plus, even though I'm using shade 1, it's noticeably darker than my cushion foundation, which made it really difficult to use. I'm thinking if I mix it with a brighter, full-coverage powder foundation, it might work better.
