Since it has a moisturizing formula rather than a drying one, those with combination or oily skin should make sure to set it well with powder. I've been using this alongside a makeup setting spray, and I've noticed that other primers can crack or clump when they get too dry and interact with the spray. But this product strikes such a perfect balance between hydration and oil control that it stays dewy even after I apply the setting spray! The bottle size feels a bit small... If you're doing your makeup every single day, you might find yourself running out faster than expected. Plus, since the container is glass, it's noticeably heavier than I'd like.

Of course, what truly matters for a base prep is how well your makeup adheres and how long it lasts throughout the day. I have extremely dry skin that tends to crack and lift if I don't pay close attention to my base routine. But after applying my skincare and then this base prep, I decided to really put it to the test by rubbing foundation on with my fingers. I was amazed—not a single flake of dry skin showed through, and the foundation blended beautifully and stayed put. It's exactly what I needed! The price is a bit steep for me. Dear Dahlia products are beautifully designed and perform really well, but the cost makes me hesitate every time I think about purchasing. It's definitely an investment piece. If you're confused about the order to apply primer, base prep, and sunscreen between your skincare and foundation, I've put together a quick guide for you! - Organic sunscreen (no brightening effect) > Base prep > Primer > Foundation - Base prep > Mineral sunscreen (with brightening effect) > Primer > Foundation That said, both base prep and primer already contain sufficient SPF protection, so personally I'd recommend skipping the sunscreen altogether and just going with Base prep > Primer > Foundation. It's simpler and still gives you great coverage!

I'm less influenced by warm or cool tones and more affected by high brightness with low saturation. I absolutely love rosy, pink-based looks and tend to skip pink and orange blushes. Overall thoughts: 1. While many people use a popular base prep as a primer before makeup, which has a thin, watery gel formula that flows like pale yellow liquid after pumping, Dear Dahlia's Skin Prep is different. It contains pearl and has a white, opaque formula. One pump creates a thick, concentrated texture on the back of my hand, almost like a light moisturizing cream. 2. The popular base prep absorbs quickly and feels incredibly lightweight—barely-there, really. It works beautifully for all skin types, especially combination and oily skin. Dear Dahlia's Skin Prep also absorbs fast, but it leaves a dewy feeling that lasts longer. It definitely feels more like you've applied something compared to the other brand, though it's not heavy. I think dry skin types would really appreciate this formula. 3. Both should be applied after sunscreen. 4. The big advantage of this Skin Prep is the pearl content. It enhances the luminosity of your base makeup, creating a gorgeous, radiant glow. When I actually use it, the shine doesn't feel greasy or uncomfortable—instead, it looks fresh and makes my makeup look luxurious and high-end. 5. Neither this Skin Prep nor the popular brand acts as a pore primer. Both excel at creating a hydrated base that improves foundation adhesion and longevity while preventing makeup from looking dry or patchy. If you prioritize these benefits, you'll make the right choice. 6. My concern is the high concentration of natural oils—lavender oil, sweet almond oil, argan kernel oil, olive oil, and grapefruit peel oil. If any of these ingredients trigger a reaction for you, there's a higher chance of experiencing breakouts. 7. Personally, grapefruit peel oil and olive oil didn't work for my skin. Throughout the month I used it, I'd get bumps between my brows and on my temples after application, which would become inflamed. I really struggled with breakouts. 8. I loved the lasting power and the radiance and sophistication the pearl gave my makeup. I was so excited to finally find a base I adored that I kept trying to make it work, but unfortunately it just didn't cooperate for me. I'm genuinely envious of those it works for! I've covered everything above. There's definitely a possibility of breakouts due to the natural oils. Grapefruit peel oil and olive oil didn't agree with my skin. I'd recommend double-checking the ingredient list before purchasing. The product itself is fine though.
