I'm a rose fragrance lover and keep this as a personal collection. Most rose scents have floral notes, but they tend to include a lot of stem scent. This fragrance, though, smells like a spicy dried rose with woody notes that remind me of cypress. It has such a neutral character that it works beautifully on everyone. I wear it a lot during winter, and I especially love how it lingers from my scarf. The downside is the longevity. You need to apply quite a bit more than you'd expect. Compared to other Le Labo fragrances, this one feels noticeably lighter. And if you're someone who loves that fresh green stem rose scent, this might feel like a different take on rose altogether. I purchased the Le Labo Discovery set and tried out the samples. I really prefer subtle, neutral fragrances. When I first tested all five samples, this one was definitely my favorite. I'm personally drawn to woody scents, but Rose 31 has such an incredibly strong woody note that it completely overpowers the rose. If I had to describe the fragrance in one word, it's like a rose blooming on a wooden pencil! The woody note is just overwhelming—it's all wood, wood, wood, and more wood. I think people who love woody fragrances would enjoy it, but if you're expecting a beautiful rose scent, you might feel a bit disappointed. I absolutely love this type of fragrance, so I have quite a collection of scents with a similar vibe. Despite its name being Rose, it leans much more toward a rich, woody character than a floral one. Of course, there's also a spicy rose note that comes through nicely. It's a sophisticated, refined fragrance with real depth and elegance. The neutral quality makes it sensual too. Honestly, this is one of my top three favorites from the Le Labo collection. My only wish is that it had more uniqueness, since there are quite a few fragrances in this same woody-rose family. The blend of cedarwood and amber works beautifully, giving it a warm rather than cold feel. I have a feeling this is going to be absolutely perfect once fall arrives. It's a bit disappointing that the projection isn't as strong as I'd hoped, though I suppose that's actually a plus since you can wear it in more settings. The fragrance itself is well-crafted, but it's quite similar to other niche woody rose florals you'd find out there. What bothers me most is that there are several comparable fragrances that feel almost interchangeable with this one the moment you spray it. It has a rose scent, but there's also a woody undertone to it, so I think anyone can wear it regardless of gender! It's a bit pricey, but honestly it's a product that's worth every penny because it performs so well! When I mix it with an unscented emulsion, the fragrance seems to last longer and comes through more subtly.
